...A Delightful Fall Weekend...

A CHILLY CHANGE: Our October warm spell is coming to an end today
thanks to a cold front passing through the state. A few periods of
light rain are likely this morning, but most of the rain should be out
of the state by early afternoon as drier air takes over. We continue
to promise a fabulous fall weekend, with sunny pleasant days and clear
cool nights. We will drop into the upper 40s tomorrow morning, and mid
40s are likely at daybreak Sunday. Some of the colder valleys across
North Alabama could even reach the upper 30s early Sunday with a few
isolated cases of light frost.

The dry weather will linger into the first half of next week; at this
point it looks like the next chance of rain will come late Wednesday
night into Thursday, followed by another shot of colder air.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For tonight's high school games, ideal weather with
clear conditions and temperatures dropping into the 50s during the
game. While we are on the subject, let's discuss the weather for
tomorrow's games. Alabama will host Ole Miss in Tuscaloosa at 2:30
p.m. on CBS TV. Picture perfect weather with near 70 at kick off and
in the low 60s by the final whistle. Almost identical weather for
Marshall University in town to play UAB at Legion Field with a 3:00
p.m. kick off. And, at Paul Snow Stadium Jacksonville State will host
Murray State tomorrow at 4:00 p.m… the sky will be clear with
temperatures falling from the upper 60s into the 50s by the fourth
quarter. Simply marvelous weather for college football.

TROPICS: Hurricane Omar (now a category one hurricane) is moving
northeast over the open water of the Atlantic; it is no threat to
land. Another tropical disturbance in the Central Atlantic, about 850
miles east of the Windward Islands has some potential to become better
organized in the next few days as it moves steadily to the west. The
remnants of Tropical Depression 16 are still producing heavy rain over
parts of Central America.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to
join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm
Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday November 15 at the BJCC during
the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by
the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has
trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years), and learn
from one of the most brilliant weather researchers in the country, our
own Dr. Tim Coleman. We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend
this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin
at 9:30, and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert
Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show.
There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up,
but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.
