...A Rainy Friday...

AFTER THE RAIN, A COOL DRY WEEKEND: We are in for a good general rain
starting tonight and continuing well into Friday. This is our latest
thinking. The rain will start off lightly tonight and gradually
increase later tonight. It looks like the most extensive rain will be
toward midnight through Friday morning and into Friday afternoon.
There is a chance that most of the rain will be out of this area by
early Friday evening. For the high school football games, there is a
decent chance of playing the game with no rain, although the fields
will be wet.

The intense low-pressure area that is part of our weather was over
Eastern Kansas this afternoon and a cold front extended down to West
Mississippi. The front, however, is running up against a wedge that is
forcing its way westward into Alabama. By daybreak tomorrow, the front
will be slow moving across West Alabama, but eventually reaching the
east side of the state late Friday. Much drier air will be our story
for Saturday and Sunday. There will be another big push of cooler air
moving out of the Central USA and sending a cold front fairly rapidly
across Alabama by Monday morning. It appears that by Tuesday morning
we could have some of the lowest temperatures so far this season with
temperatures in the mid 30s to start the day and maybe closer to 32 in
the valleys of NE Alabama.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn is in Morgantown to play West Virginia
tonight on ESPN with a 6:30 kick off. Clear weather is expected with
about 52 degrees at kick off dropping into the 40s. On Saturday,
Alabama State plays Alabama A&M in the Magic City Classic at Legion
Field with a 2:30 p.m. kick off and tape delay on ESPNU. Meanwhile,
the Citadel will be at Samford for their homecoming at 2:00 p.m. For
both games, it should be mostly sunny with about 66 at kick off and in
the 50s by the 4th quarter. NW winds 7-14 mph for both games.
Finally, Alabama is at Knoxville for an evening game Saturday. The
kick off is at 6:45 p.m. (CDT) on ESPN. It will be clear and cool with
55 degrees at kick off and dropping into the 40s. This evening for
some high school games in this part of Alabama, some light rain may be
threatening, but temperatures will be mostly in the 50s.

GLOBAL ROAMING: The blizzard that was forecast for part of Nebraska
and Kansas did not turn out nearly as bad as expected, but wind gusts
to around 50 and a couple inches of snow made it miserable. The
temperature dropped to 4 above this morning at Laramie in SE Wyoming
and in Alaska it was 16 below zero at Bettles with 11 inches of snow
on the ground. Over on the Pacific coast of Alaska, it was a raw day
with Juneau having a steady driving rain, 38 degrees and winds to 46
mph. 7 inches of rain in the last 24 hours at Key West and 3.70 in
Houston.

MY TINY CORNER OF THEWORLD: Sure glad to hear that my former
neighbor, Martin Woosley and his wife, have a new puppy after losing
their dog Huey back in the spring. Huey was over 15 years old. Pete,
their new puppy, is a Shih-Tzu. He is black with a white tummy, which
sounds very much like Little Miss Molly. He is already a big eater and
a bundle of energy. They had forgotten how many things a little doggy
can get into. As Martin describes him, "Pete is a pistol." Always
recommend not to go without dog ownership very long. However, I know
it would be very tough for me to want to new dog if something were to
happen to Molly. Molly sure did enjoy our cool walk this morning
facing a 25 mph wind and temperatures in the 50s. She is like me—she
likes it cold. Life goes on.
