...A Chilly, Wet Day...
COLD (FOR OCTOBER) AND WET: Wet weather headlines our forecast today
as a dynamic upper air system passes through. We are projecting rain
amounts of one inch, with some heavier amounts likely south of
Montgomery. This is going to be a rather chilly rain for mid-October;
we should hover in the 50s all day with a cool breeze out of the
east/northeast. The rain will taper off this afternoon from west to
east, and there is a decent chance the rain will be over by the time
high school football games begin tonight (but the fields will be very
sloppy from the all-day rain).
BRIGHTER AND WARMER OVER THE WEEKEND: The sky should clear after
midnight tonight, and the weekend looks very nice with a sunny sky
both tomorrow and Sunday. The high tomorrow should be in the mid 60s,
with low 70s likely by Sunday. Mornings will be cool with readings
well down in the 40s.
COLD AIR BLAST NEXT WEEK: A deep upper trough will deliver the coldest
air so far this season early next week. Monday will be a rather raw
day with a brisk north wind, a few sprinkles, and a mix of sun and
clouds. There is a good chance we won't reach 60 Monday, and by
daybreak Tuesday we should be down in the 30s. The greatest risk of
frost, however, will come early Wednesday when the sky will be clear,
and the wind light. Colder valleys have a decent chance of reaching
the 20s Wednesday morning. A warming trend will begin Wednesday
afternoon, continuing through the rest of the week.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Most of the rain should be over by the time the high
school football games begin tonight, but clouds will linger.
Temperatures will hover in the 50 to 54 degree range during the games.
Tomorrow, Alabama State plays Alabama A&M in the Magic City Classic at
Legion Field with a 2:30 p.m. kick off and tape delay on ESPNU.
Meanwhile, the Citadel will be at Samford for their homecoming at 2:00
p.m. For both games, it should be mostly sunny with about 66 at kick
off and in the 50s by the 4th quarter. NW winds 7-14 mph for both
games. Finally, Alabama is at Knoxville for an evening game Saturday.
The kick off is at 6:45 p.m. (CDT) on ESPN. It will be clear and cool
with 55 degrees at kick off and dropping into the 40s.
PRIME TIME SPECIAL: Join us on ABC 33/40 tonight at 7:00 for "Southern
Skies of 2008″…. this is our annual fall severe weather special. You
will see some great Alabama weather stories, and learn more about
getting your family ready for our fall tornado season, which begins in
only 8 days!
