...Rain Returns Late Tomorrow...

ONE MORE DRY DAY: Expect another fantastic October day today with
ample sunshine and a high in the mid 70s. Just the kind of weather you
expect in mid-October in Alabama. But, to the west, a major storm is
moving out into the Great Plains, and will bring big changes to our
weather before the week is over.

In advance of the storm system, clouds will increase tomorrow, and
showers should move into West Alabama during the afternoon. The rain
will become more widespread tomorrow night and Friday as the big upper
low drifts slowly to the east/southeast. At this point it still looks
like most of the rain will fall from around 6:00 p.m. tomorrow through
12:00 midnight Friday night, and amounts of around one inch can be
expected statewide. Some thunder could be involved due to the dynamic
forcing from the system, but we really don't expect a problem with
strong to severe storms since the air is stable in the lower levels.

WHAT ABOUT THE WEEKEND? A dry slot will move over Alabama on Saturday,
and morning clouds should give way to a partly sunny afternoon. Sunday
also looks dry with a good supply of sunshine. Temperatures over the
weekend should be pleasant, with highs between 65 and 70, and early
morning lows in the 40s.

EARLY FOOTBALL FORECAST: This week we have a Thursday night special…
Auburn plays at West Virginia (kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CDT ON ESPN) in
Morgantown. The weather will be excellent; a clear sky with a kickoff
temperature of 54 degrees, dropping through the 40s during the game.
If you are making the trip you will need a warm jacket.
Saturday… Alabama will take on the Tennessee Volunteers at 6:45 (CDT)
Saturday night on ESPN. The big cold core upper low will be a big
player here… so we will mention a chance of showers during the game
with temperatures falling through the 50s, possibly reaching the 40s
by the fourth quarter. And, yes, a few snow flakes are possible in the
Great Smoky mountains (the higher terrain) just east of Knoxville
Saturday night into Sunday.

MAJOR OCTOBER SNOW: Thundersnow was reported west of Denver yesterday,
and a big snow event is shaping up today for parts of Nebraska and
Kansas; the NWS office in North Platte, Nebraska is forecasting snow
totals of over 6 inches along with north winds up to 60 mph making for
white-out conditions and power outages.

PRIME TIME SPECIAL: Join us on ABC 33/40 Friday at 7:00 for "Southern
Skies of 2008"… this is our annual fall severe weather special. You
will see some great Alabama weather stories, and learn more about
getting your family ready for our fall tornado season, which begins in
only 10 days!
