PASCAGOULA 20 TO 60 NM OFFSHORE HAS BEEN CANCELED...
HURRICANE IKE CONTINUES TO MAKE STEADY PROGRESS TO THE WEST AND
NORTHWEST...TAKING AIM ON THE UPPER TEXAS COAST AND SOUTHWEST
LOUISIANA THIS EVENING.
SUSTAINED WINDS ARE DROPPING BELOW TROPICAL STORM FORCE OVER THE GULF
WATERS FROM PENSACOLA TO PASCAGOULA 20 TO 60 NM OFFSHORE.
AT 300 PM CDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IKE WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 28.1 NORTH...LONGITUDE 93.4 WEST...OR ABOUT 120 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF GALVESTON TEXAS.
IKE IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 12 MPH. A TURN TOWARD
THE NORTHWEST IS EXPECTED LATER TODAY...WITH A TURN TOWARD THE NORTH
EXPECTED ON SATURDAY. ON THE FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF IKE WILL
BE VERY NEAR THE UPPER TEXAS COAST BY LATE TODAY.
DATA FROM BOTH NOAA AND AIR FORCE RECONNAISSANCE PLANES INDICATE
THAT THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS REMAIN NEAR 105 MPH...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. IKE IS A CATEGORY TWO HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE
BUT COULD REACH THE COAST AS A CATEGORY THREE...MAJOR HURRICANE.
IKE REMAINS A VERY LARGE TROPICAL CYCLONE. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS
EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 120 MILES FROM THE CENTER...AND TROPICAL STORM
FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 275 MILES FROM THE CENTER.

BUOY DATA INDICATES THE SUSTAINED WINDS OVER THIS REGION OF THE GULF
HAVE DROPPED BELOW TROPICAL STORM FORCE...BUT ARE STILL STRONG FROM
THE SOUTHEAST AT 30 KNOTS GUSTING PERIODICALLY TO 40 KNOTS.
SEAS AROUND 18 FEET WILL SLOWLY SUBSIDE OVERNIGHT...BUT WILL STILL
BE ABOVE 7 FEET ON SATURDAY. A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT
THROUGH THE DAY ON SATURDAY.
