...Are You Ready for some 40s?...

More beautiful fall weather is on tap for Central Alabama in the week
ahead, as a couple of shots of cooler and drier air overspread the
state. Some of the coolest readings since last May are expected
across the area.

THE WEEK AHEAD: We will start the new work week with sunny and dry
conditions. Temperatures today will warm into the lower and middle
80s. A strong upper trough will be diving southward out of the upper
Midwest. As it does, it will push a cold front southward. The front
will push through the state on Tuesday afternoon. The front will have
little to work with in the way of moisture, so rain chances will very
small. Behind the front, it will be on the breezy side as the new
airmass moves into the area. Wednesday should be sunny and cooler.
By Thursday morning, we think there will be widespread readings in the
40s across much of North and Central Alabama. A reinforcing shot of
cooler and drier air will arrive late on Friday, continuing the dry
trend…

INTO THE WEEKEND: As we head toward the weekend, that dry and
relatively cool air will be in place, setting the stage for a great
weekend for all of the state's sporting activities. It will feel like
football weather in Nashville and Tuscaloosa for Auburn and Alabama
fans with pleasant, mild afternoons and refreshing overnights that
will feature readings in the 40s.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE: As we head toward the weekend, that dry and
relatively cool air will be in place, setting the stage for a great
weekend for all of the state's sporting activities. It will feel like
football weather in Nashville and Tuscaloosa for the Auburn and
Alabama games. Perfect weather for the NASCAR race at Talladega.
Sunny skies after a cool start, with highs in the 70s.

KYLE: Hurricane Kyle moved inland over the Canadian Maritimes last
night as it made the transition from a tropical to extratropical
cyclone. It sure didn't look like much on satellite photos Sunday,
but recon crews were still finding 80 mph winds in the storm.
Tropical or extratropical, an 80 mph wind is still an 80 mph wind. It
spread strong winds over New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Maine escaped
most of the ill effects as it was west of the storm center.

ELSEWHERE IN THE TROPICS: The low over the Yucatan will move
northeastward today, moving over the open waters. It could become a
tropical depression as it moves toward the Florida Peninsula. There
is also a low in the Central Atlantic west of the Azores. This system
could also become a subtropical or tropical cyclone as it moves slowly
westward.

ON THIS DATE IN 1965: Mobile was inundated with 16.85 inches of rain
during the night of the September 29th into the morning of the 30th
as Tropical Storm Debbie neared the Gulf Coast. The flooding resulted
in $25 million in damage in the Mobile area. Debbie is interesting
because the storm never made landfall. As it approached the northern
Gulf Coast on September 29th, it began to entrain dry air.
