...A Wet Time...

STORMY TONIGHT; CLEARING TOMORROW: Big thunderstorms were roaming
across South Mississippi and South Alabama this afternoon. A Tornado
Watch was posted until 10:00 tonight for nine counties in Southwest
Alabama and two in Northwest Florida. This Tornado Watch includes such
places as Mobile, Grove Hill, Camden, Butler, Brewton, Chatom, Bay
Minette, Evergreen and Monroeville.
This whole weather system has favored the southern parts of
Mississippi and Alabama as far as big rain amounts are concerned. A
low-pressure area will be moving east across Central Mississippi and
Central Alabama tonight and early tomorrow morning. It will move on
across Georgia during the day.

Here in North/Central Alabama, it is difficult to say the rain will be
completely over by daybreak. If not, it should end by midmorning
tomorrow. Slightly drier air will spill southward behind a cold front
(or a frontal boundary, it certainly is not cold). With the lower dew
points, temperatures will be a little cooler at night and in the mid
60s by Thursday morning. We expect few, if any, showers and
thunderstorms Thursday and Friday, but some scattered ones return for
the weekend.

Later tonight, we will post a list of the rain amounts for today. It
is near certain that quite a few communities in South Alabama will
report between 2 and 3 inches. Over the north half of Alabama it has
been a slow soaking rain today and not real heavy. In the Birmingham
metro area, the rain could still be heavy at times tonight.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Two main concerns out in the Atlantic. The National
Hurricane Center considers the westernmost disturbance as having a
good risk of becoming a tropical storm. The one further east has a
moderate chance. The closest one was about 550 miles east of the
Lesser Antilles. Conditions are friendly for a tropical depression to
form during the next day or so. An Air Ford hurricane hunter was en
route this afternoon to take a closer look. The other disturbance was
over the Eastern Atlantic some 400 miles WSW of the Cape Verde
Islands. It is rather discombobulated, but slow development is
expected. We are most interested in the westernmost disturbance. It
will need to be watched closely for possible impact somewhere on the
USA east coast. Way, way too early to get specific about that.

SEVERE WEATHER AND OTHER NOTES: SPC maintains a Slight Risk for the
remainder of this afternoon and tonight for the south portions of
Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and North Florida. Another
Slight Risk in West Nebraska and SW South Dakota. Tomorrow the Slight
Risk covers South Georgia and the SE part of South Carolina with
another Slight Risk area covering the western half of both Kansas and
Nebraska. I do not believe I have ever seen so many severe weather
incidents in the NE USA, including New England as we have had this
year. Twin waterspouts were photographed yesterday over Long Island
Sound.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I am beginning to wonder if my little
pal, Little Miss Molly, carries a grudge. I have noticed that when I
ignore her most of the day, the little bushy tail does not wag as much
and she tends to come in my office, stand stone still and glare at me.
I think she is telling me, "Big guy, how dare you not play with me."
Last night when we all went to bed, she did site preparation on the
far corner of the foot of the bed and would not sleep close to us like
she usually does. I will talk to her later tonight and humbly
apologize. Life still goes on.

CHURCH. IT'S NOT A BUILDING

It's people. A family of people who are far from perfect, who
don't pretend there are no disappointments in life. But who
know where to turn in those disappointments and where hope
is found.

This Sunday, some will gather at Hunter Street Baptist Church
in Hoover. Will you join us?
