HELP US FIND "FOREVER FAMILIES"
FOR ALABAMA'S FOSTER CHILDREN

Heart Gallery Alabama helps find families for the 270+ children
currently in Alabama's foster care system who are waiting for
their "Forever Families."

Heart Gallery, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, recruits professional
photographers to capture the unique spirit of each child. They
interview the children and place their images and voices on a website
(http://www.heartgalleryalabama.com) and in traveling exhibits
throughout the state where prospective adoptive families can learn
more about them. Heart Gallery Alabama has helped find a
permanent home for 70 children.

Statistics show that children with involved fathers are more confident,
better able to deal with frustration, more likely to mature into
compassionate adults and to have a higher self esteem.

Would you consider becoming a permanent home for a child? Or making a
tax-deductible donation to help our mission? Any donation will help us
find permanent homes for these children.

A northwesterly flow aloft is responsible for the anomalous shower and
thunderstorm development across the area this afternoon.
Disturbances rippling along in the flow are combining with a warm and
moist atmosphere and a stagnant boundary to fire the activity. The
northwesterly flow will continue through Sunday, but there are signs
that the deeper moisture will shift southeastward tonight. A drier
atmosphere means less in the way of showers and storms on Sunday.
There still will be a couple of storms tomorrow, but overall rain
chances will lessen. As the rain chances drop, the temperatures will
be on the rise.

THE HEAT IS ON: Signs are that most spots will be in the middle 90s
on Sunday. Get used to that, because it will be that way through
Wednesday. Middle 90s will be quite common, with occasional upper 90s
and a couple of readings at or above the century mark during the
period. Dewpoints will be in the middle 70s, so heat index values
will be in the 105-110 range on the hotter afternoons. A heat index
of 110F is the threshold for a heat advisory for us here in Central
Alabama. A temperature of 97F and a dewpoint of 74F will yield a heat
index of 110F.

HEAT SAFETY: It will be imperative that we review our heat safety
rules during the coming hot spell. Dress accordingly. Drink plenty
of liquids, but not alcohol. Eat lighter foods, including less
protein. Slow down. Take frequent breaks. Don't get too much sun.
If your home lacks air conditioning, spend time in a cool spot like a
mall or movie theatre during the hottest part of the day. Check on
elderly friends. If they dont have air conditioning, make sure
they have fans.

RAIN CHANCES: Storms should be more isolated on Sunday. This trend
will continue into the first half of the week with the chance of any
one location getting rain each day about 20-30%. By Thursday, the
high pressure system to our west will retrograde further west and a
big trough will start to form over the eastern United States. This
will allow a boundary over the Ohio Valley to slide southward,
increasing our rain chances on Thursday and Friday. We could see
additional thunderstorm complexes drifting along in the upper flow.
There are signs that boundary will slide down into South Alabama by
Saturday or Sunday, drying us back out just a tad.

TROPICS: A tropical wave is a little over one thousand miles east of
the Leeward Islands this afternoon. It is moving northwestward and
has little prospect for development and is no threat to any land area.
After a burst of activity earlier this month, the tropical Atlantic
has gone quiet. No real prospects for tropical development are seen
in the next two weeks.

ON THIS DATE IN 1997: Hurricane Danny dissipated on this date. No
other named tropical cyclone would be present in the Atlantic for the
next 38 days, lasting throughout August. 1961 was the only other year
since aircraft reconnaissance flights began in the 1940s to have no
Atlantic tropical storms in the month of August.

ON THIS DATE IN 1874: The city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
experienced the worst weather disaster in its history as a flash flood
claimed 134 lives. The flash flood was produced by slow moving
thunderstorms that dumped heavy rain on the hills of the city. The
worst flooding occurred in Allegheny City, just northwest of
Pittsburgh.
