HELP US FIND "FOREVER FAMILIES"
FOR ALABAMA'S FOSTER CHILDREN

Heart Gallery Alabama helps find families for the 270+ children
currently in Alabama's foster care system who are waiting for
their "Forever Families."

Heart Gallery, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, recruits professional
photographers to capture the unique spirit of each child. They
interview the children and place their images and voices on a website
(http://www.heartgalleryalabama.com) and in traveling exhibits
throughout the state where prospective adoptive families can learn
more about them. Heart Gallery Alabama has helped find a
permanent home for 70 children.

Statistics show that children with involved fathers are more confident,
better able to deal with frustration, more likely to mature into
compassionate adults and to have a higher self esteem.

Would you consider becoming a permanent home for a child? Or making a
tax-deductible donation to help our mission? Any donation will help us
find permanent homes for these children.

...In The Heart Of Our Summer...

HOTTER TEMPERATURES NEXT WEEK: Alabama weather is now behaving like
it is supposed to for late July and heading toward early August. If
you consider long-term averages, this is traditionally our hottest
time of the year. It does not have to be.

On this date in 1952, it was a sizzling 106 in Birmingham as we
suffered through a drought and heat wave during that period only to
repeat in 1954. In Cullman, the thermometer suffered a high of 108 on
July 29, in 1952. Muscle Shoals received only 3.83 inches of rain all
summer. Part of South Alabama went 40 to 50 days in a row with no
measurable rain. The Lower Cahaba and Lower Alabama rivers dropped to
an all-time record stream flow.

BACK TO THE PRESENT: Scattered showers and thunderstorms initiated by
midday over extreme NE Alabama. This was mainly because a weak frontal
zone pushed into that area and stopped overnight. The storms were
continuing to develop this afternoon. For tomorrow, an upper-level
disturbance will be partially involved and we look for a better chance
of showers and thunderstorms. A few of those could be strong. For
Sunday and well into next week, there will be a chance of a shower or
thunderstorm each afternoon, although they may thin out greatly by
Tuesday. We are also headed for some hotter temperatures early in the
week. Our current forecast calls for a high of 97 Tuesday.

TROPICAL: What was left of Hurricane Dolly was moving westward near
the Mexican/Texas border passing south of the Texas Big Bend country.
Still some locally heavy rain in that area. Dolly dumped as much as 12
inches of rain in extreme South Texas. Remember, she moved across the
extreme SW part of the Gulf of Mexico, so she did not by any means tap
all the energy from the 600,000 square miles of water. There is still
plenty of high-octane fuel in the Gulf awaiting something to develop
or something to move in from the Caribbean. No signs of that now.

SEVERE WEATHER: New England suffered a real blow from severe weather
yesterday. A possible tornado established a 25-mile track through the
center of New Hampshire and at least one person was killed. Numerous
homes were destroyed or damaged. That corner of the USA has had a very
active year. Not only did Caribou, Maine record the most snow on
record during the winter, but the whole region has been wet. In the
last 2 days, 6.15 inches of rain fell at New Kingston, New York. The
Middle West is also getting an overdose of rain. 8.28 inches at
Kirksville, Missouri in the last 24 hours. St. Louis now has a one-
foot excess of rain this year.

WEATHER NOTEBOOK: Our dear friend, the Gulf of Mexico, contains an
estimated 643 quadrillion gallons of water. No wonder she affects our
weather so much. Hottest in the USA yesterday was 120 in Death Valley.
It was 33 this morning at, you guessed it, Stanley, Idaho.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Sometimes I think we should rename our
street, Little Miss Molly Avenue. She is one of the very best known
creatures on this street. On our walk very early this morning, we met
Carolyn, one of our neighbours, and she broke into a big smile 20
yards away. Molly has that affect on everyone. Everybody that knows
Molly loves her except about two people and those two do not like any
dogs. I totally respect that. The little girl is changing slowly. She
now does site preparation on 4 different parts of the king-size bed
before going to sleep. Life goes on.
