HELP US FIND "FOREVER FAMILIES"
FOR ALABAMA'S FOSTER CHILDREN

Heart Gallery Alabama helps find families for the 270+ children
currently in Alabama's foster care system who are waiting for
their "Forever Families."

Heart Gallery, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, recruits professional
photographers to capture the unique spirit of each child. They
interview the children and place their images and voices on a website
(http://www.heartgalleryalabama.com) and in traveling exhibits
throughout the state where prospective adoptive families can learn
more about them. Heart Gallery Alabama has helped find a
permanent home for 70 children.

Statistics show that children with involved fathers are more confident,
better able to deal with frustration, more likely to mature into
compassionate adults and to have a higher self esteem.

Would you consider becoming a permanent home for a child? Or making
a tax-deductible donation to help our mission? Any donation will help us
find permanent homes for these children.

NO 100-DEGREE HEAT: All those thunderstorms yesterday sort of worked
over our atmosphere and made it a little more stable. Net result is
that so far today, showers and storms have been much fewer in number
over the north and central part of the state. We should not cheer too
quickly, because some fairly strong storms were moving down from
Middle Tennessee toward the Tennessee Valley at midafternoon. We
cannot rule out some isolated strong storms.

Down south, showers and thunderstorms were fairly numerous—mostly
south of Montgomery down to the coast. Most of those were moving
toward the SE.

The old thermometer is being a little more reasonable. At 2:00 p.m.,
temperatures were mostly between 84 and 88 over the north half of the
state, but Tuscaloosa had already reached 94. That is a lot better
than the 98 to 102-degree heat that parts of the state experienced for
several days in a row.

REST OF THE WEEK: We will maintain daily highs between 92 and 94
across Central Alabama. We believe that the chance of a shower or
storm tomorrow will be very small. We will still have some each day
through the weekend, but we think they will be widely scattered on
most days with no big batch of showers and storms like we have had the
last two days. There was scattered wind damage across the state in the
storms yesterday including a number of trees uprooted. Many
communities received beneficial rain. Here are a few examples of some
of the heavier amounts:

1.68 Pleasant Grove
1.82 Centre
1.38 Logan Martin Dam
2.25 Selma
2.20 near Clanton
2.15 Roanoke
4.35 South of Tuscumbia

TROPICAL WEATHER: It was very interesting to watch Hurricane Dolly
make landfall in extreme South Texas this morning. When she got close
to the coast, she tarried a bit and finally went inland north of
Brownsville. She will start to weaken now, but still causing a lot of
problems. Her slow westward movement will allow tons of rain that will
cause flash flooding well inland. The Governor of Texas has declared
14 South Texas counties disaster areas. Wind gusts of 74 mph recorded
at Harlingen and 67 mph at Brownsville. Elsewhere, a large tropical
wave over the far Eastern Atlantic is moving west at 15 to 20.
Development not expected, at least for a couple of days.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I am way, way behind on playtime with my
little 9-pound pal who has got me wrapped me around her paws like a
Band-Aid. This is the third day in a row that I have given her almost
no attention. Thunderstorms play a double whammy. They keep me real
busy while they also scare the living daylights out of Molly. They do
not seem to bother her as much as they used to, because she now has
staked out 4 hiding places at the first sound of thunder. She is a
smart little rascal. Life goes on......
