...Wet and Stormy At Times...

UNSETTLED WEATHER: Alabama will remain in a very moist environment for
the next 36 hours, and our forecast package will highlight scattered
to numerous showers and thunderstorms today and tomorrow. While most
of the showers and storms will come during the afternoon and evening
hours, a few nighttime and morning showers are not out of the
question. Like recent days, thunderstorms will. have the potential to
drop heavy amounts of rain in a brief time, and the storms will also
be capable of producing strong winds, small hail, and a bunch of
dangerous cloud to ground lightning. Due to the clouds and showers,
temperatures will have a hard time getting out of the mid 80s today
and tomorrow.

We believe showers and storms will become fewer in number Sunday as
drier air tries to work into Alabama, and by Monday the chance of rain
is so small that we have left it out of the forecast for now.

WEEKEND AT THE BEACH: Scattered showers and storms will be part of the
daily forecast along the Gulf Coast through early next week; still
expect about 5 to 7 hours of sunshine each day with a high in the
upper 80s along the immediate coast, with low 90s inland. We note that
thunderstorms have increased a bit over the water of the Gulf of
Mexico during the past 24 hours with some hint at a broad upper
circulation, but upper air winds don't favor tropical storm formation
right now.

ACROSS THE FRUITED PLAIN: More severe weather yesterday and last night
in the general area from Wichita to Milwaukee. A total of 22 tornado
reports were received in this region by the Storm Prediction Center,
along with 71 reports of high wind and 79 reports of hail. Hottest
place in the nation yesterday was Wink, Texas with 111 degrees.

IOWA FLOODING: More heavy rain for the flood ravaged state yesterday;
the total at Des Moines was 1.30". The Cedar River poured over its
banks at Cedar Rapids yesterday, forcing the evacuation of more than
3,000 homes, causing a railroad bridge to collapse and leaving cars
underwater on downtown streets. About 3,200 homes were evacuated and
some 8,000 residents displaced, officials estimated. Gov. Chet Culver
has declared 55 of the state's 99 counties as state disaster areas.
All of this rain across the nation's heart land will ultimately lead
to flooding on a long stretch of the Mississippi River in coming weeks.

ON THIS DATE IN 1984: A tremendous hailstorm at Denver. Hailstones of
up to 4 inches in diameter were measured. Vehicle damage alone was
estimated at $150 million. Damage to homes and buildings totaled $200
million. Golfball size hail pounded some areas for forty minutes!
Snowplows had to be called out to clear the roads of the hail. The
hailstones injured 20 people. Ninety percent of the houses in the town
of Limon, Colorado suffered roof damage.

HELP US FIND "FOREVER FAMILIES"
FOR ALABAMA'S FOSTER CHILDREN

Heart Gallery Alabama helps find families for the 270+ children
currently in Alabama's foster care system who are waiting for
their "Forever Families."

Heart Gallery, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, recruits professional
photographers to capture the unique spirit of each child. They
interview the children and place their images and voices on a website
(http://www.heartgalleryalabama.com) and in traveling exhibits
throughout the state where prospective adoptive families can learn
more about them. Heart Gallery Alabama has helped find a
permanent home for 70 children.

Statistics show that children with involved fathers are more confident,
better able to deal with frustration, more likely to mature into
compassionate adults and to have a higher self esteem.

As Father's Day approaches, we ask that you consider becoming a
permanent home for a child. Or consider making a tax-deductible
donation to help our mission. Any donation will help us find
permanent homes for these children.
