...Storms Increase Tomorrow...

MORE STORMS THIS AFTERNOON: Not much change in the Alabama weather
situation today; a blanket of moist air remains in place, and
thunderstorms will begin to fire up in random locations this afternoon
during the heat of the day. Most of the storms will come from about
1:00 until 8:00 p.m., and the chance of any one spot getting wet is
only about one in three. Winds aloft remain very light, and like the
last two days the storms won't be moving much, so a few places will
see very heavy amounts of rain with potential for some localized
flooding. Also, the stronger storms can produce brief periods of
strong, potentially damaging winds (wet microbursts).

We still expect to see a general increase in the coverage and number
of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow and Saturday as a surface front
approaches Alabama from the northwest (notice we don't call them "cold
fronts" this time of the year!). The stronger storms will produce
heavy rain again, and with only limited sunshine we figure
temperatures won't rise above the mid 80s.
We will need to hang on to some risk of a shower or thunderstorm
Sunday, but the most numerous ones will most likely be over South
Alabama as the air begins to slowly dry over North Alabama. The drier
air will cover much of North Alabama early next week, and at this
moment it looks like most places north of I-20 will be dry Monday and
Tuesday.

BEACH FORECAST: The daily risk of scattered showers and storms will
continue through Sunday from Panama City westward to Gulf Shores, but
no wash-out, and there will be about 5 to 7 hours of sunshine each
day. The high along the immediate coast will be in the 85 to 88 degree
range, but look for low 90s just inland. Last night's SST (sea surface
temperature) at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab was 87.5 degrees. And, no
sign of any tropical storm activity in the Atlantic basin for the rest
of the week.

TROPICAL DOWNPOURS: A nearly stationary thunderstorm dropped a
whopping 2.67" at our SKYCAM location at the Tuscaloosa County
Courthouse in downtown Tuscaloosa; much of that came down in only 30
minutes, and a flash flood warning was required. Summer storms also
were severe briefly in Jefferson, Blount, Cleburne, Chilton, Shelby,
and Autauga counties. Our SKYCAM atop the Daniel Building in downtown
Tuscaloosa measured 0.75" thanks to a passing thunderstorm.

TORNADO TRAGEDY: From abc3340.com: A spokeswoman for Iowa Homeland
Security says at least four people were killed and 40 injured when a
tornado struck a western Iowa Boy Scout camp. Iowa Homeland Security
spokeswoman Julie Tack says a search and rescue team has been deployed
to the camp near Little Sioux in Harrison County. She says the camp is
covered with debris and downed trees after the tornado hit about 7
p.m. Wednesday. Tack says there were 93 campers and 25 staff members
at the camp. The campers were between 13 and 18 years old and were
attending a leadership training camp. "They were considered some of
the best in the area," Tack said.

HELP US FIND "FOREVER FAMILIES"
FOR ALABAMA'S FOSTER CHILDREN

Heart Gallery Alabama helps find families for the 270+ children
currently in Alabama's foster care system who are waiting for
their "Forever Families."

Heart Gallery, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, recruits professional
photographers to capture the unique spirit of each child. They
interview the children and place their images and voices on a website
(http://www.heartgalleryalabama.com) and in traveling exhibits
throughout the state where prospective adoptive families can learn
more about them. Heart Gallery Alabama has helped find a
permanent home for 70 children.

Statistics show that children with involved fathers are more confident,
better able to deal with frustration, more likely to mature into
compassionate adults and to have a higher self esteem.

As Father's Day approaches, we ask that you consider becoming a
permanent home for a child. Or consider making a tax-deductible
donation to help our mission. Any donation will help us find
permanent homes for these children.

Please call (205) 445-1293 or http://www.heartgalleryalabama.com
