THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ALABAMA
THE WESTERN FLORIDA PANHANDLE
COASTAL WATERS

EFFECTIVE THIS SATURDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON FROM 710 AM UNTIL
100 PM CDT.

HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 80
STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 15 MILES WEST OF
MOBILE ALABAMA TO 35 MILES SOUTH OF MONTGOMERY ALABAMA. FOR A

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...A WELL-DEVELOPED PRE-FRONTAL SQUALL LINE WILL CONTINUE
MOVING ESEWD THROUGH THE MORNING ACROSS CENTRAL/SRN AL. AS THE LOW
LEVELS DESTABILIZE WITH DAYTIME HEATING...THE THREAT FOR DAMAGING
WINDS AND LARGE HAIL WILL BE MAINTAINED WITH THE STRONGEST STORMS IN
THE LINE. THE CONVECTIVE MODE SHOULD REMAIN PRIMARILY LINEAR GIVEN
THE TENDENCY FOR LOW-LEVEL AND DEEP LAYER SHEAR TO WEAKEN GRADUALLY
BY EARLY AFTERNOON.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 1.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
