ALABAMA ONE CALL

KNOW WHAT'S BELOW
CALL 811 BEFORE YOU DIG

Whether planning to do it yourself or hire a professional excavator,
smart digging
means calling 811 before each job to find out where it's safe to dig.

Every digging project requires a call to Alabama One Call--even small
projects like building a fence, planting shrubs and trees or
installing a mailbox.

One free easy call to 811 or 205-252-4444 at least 48 hours prior to
digging:

* Gets utility owned lines marked for free!
* Complies with Alabama Act 94-487.
* Helps prevent undesired consequences and possible service disruptions
to your neighborhood.

CHANCE OF SEVERE WEATHER UPCOMING: We think the risk of severe
weather across Central Alabama will come Saturday, but it is not out
of the question that we could see a few warnings late tonight over the
NW counties. The Storm Prediction Center altered the Saturday severe
weather outlook for Alabama. They now include all of the state under a
Slight Risk, except the extreme NW. That implies that some of the
strongest thunderstorms will be moving into extreme NW Alabama late
tonight and, for sure, before daybreak Saturday. We have studied
everything we can get our hands on today and we believe the wind will
shift around to the west around midday Saturday. We also believe that
the maximum shower and thunderstorm activity for Central Alabama,
including Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Anniston, will be mid morning
until early afternoon. The showers and storms should diminish
considerably before nightfall. We are hoping that the slight risk will
hold true instead of an upgrade to moderate. We believe it will, but
we will know for sure before daybreak. While Saturday will be stormy,
it will be followed by some extremely pleasant weather Sunday, Monday
and Tuesday with mostly sunshine and highs only in the upper 70s. The
dew point will drop into the 40s by Sunday. Translation: much lower
humidity.

RAIN POTENTIAL: Not much change in our thinking. We believe 1 inch
to possibly 1.50 inches is possible across Central Alabama. Rain
deficits are increasing again, but they are not as serious as last
year at this time. Birmingham Airport has received 16.96 inches this
year, more than double the 9.20 that we had on May 2 last year.

TORNADOES AND BLIZZARDS: A very wild day of weather across the
midsection of the nation. Numerous Tornado Warnings overnight and
today. There are reports now of 7 fatalities in Northern Arkansas.
That number will probably be outdated by the time you read this. A new
Tornado Watch was issued this afternoon that goes until 8:00 tonight
for Eastern Arkansas, NW Mississippi and West Tennessee. The Watch
touches the NW tip of Alabama, so we may get some type of watch in NW
Alabama later tonight. An intense low-pressure area was moving across
Iowa today. Over on the north and west side of the low, powerful winds
over 60 mph was causing blizzard conditions. I-90 was closed through
much of Western South Dakota and East Wyoming…7 to 10 foot drifts of
snow in the Black Hills of South Dakota…48 inches on the ground at
Harding, South Dakota, not counting drifts and 30 inches at Spearfish,
South Dakota. The mayor of Rapid City recommended that residents stay
home.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I sure was glad to get an e-mail from
Tina Nibblett that they had gotten a new puppy named Trixie. They were
devastated when their long-time pal, Scooby, died 5 months ago. They
decided to wait 5 months before getting another dog, but the family
has instantly bonded with little Trixie…I highly recommend not going
too long without a dog. When we had bad luck with 3 dogs in a row, we
waited over 20 years. Then, my little pal, Little Miss Molly, walked
in on a Sunday afternoon and made me wish I had not waited. Life goes
on......
