PROGRESSIVE WEATHER PATTERN: That is what we call it when the same
weather does not stay around very long and storm systems continue to
march across the weather map. It is truly one of those times that if
you do not like the weather now, hang on for a while. So, here we go
again.
Showers and thunderstorms were increasing across Louisiana and
Mississippi this afternoon. A Tornado Watch was in effect for the
southern half of Alabama until 8:00 p.m. Wind damage has been reported
near Jackson, and tornado warnings were in efect for a number of East
Mississippi counties at early afternoon. A few severe storms are
possible this evening over the central and southern part of Alabama.
Our showers and thunderstorms will be winding down before daybreak in
most areas and it will be turning sharply colder before daybreak. We
will have to watch for the possibility of a brief change over to some
light freezing rain over the extreme north. We do not expect any of
that along the I-20 corridor.
Brisk NW winds will gust over 25 mph at times tomorrow as the colder
air pours in. Clouds should move out rather quickly by late morning.
This opens the gate for another good freeze Wednesday night with lows
in the mid 20s. As always, some of the traditional colder North
Alabama valleys may have 20 to 25.
That is not the end of our story. Clouds will increase again on Friday
with more showers and storms arriving late in the day and increasing
at night. Still a good chance of showers and thunderstorms on
Saturday, especially through the morning.
STORM ALERT 2008: It starts tonight at 7:00 in the Northport Civic
Center. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Be sure and get there early. There are
free T-shirts while they last and prizes during the program.
THE WORLD AROUND US: Remarkable warm up, if you can call it that, in
Northern Minnesota. It was only 1 below zero this morning at
International Falls, which was 39 degrees higher than yesterday
morning. Coldest this morning in the lower four dozen states was 22
below zero at Saranac Lake, New York and Land o' Lakes, Wisconsin.
Saranac Lake and other places in Northern New York will get big
bunches of additional tonight and tomorrow. Louisville got 4 inches of
snow yesterday and similar amounts at Lexington and Brandenburg,
Kentucky. Brandenburg is on the Ohio River SW of Louisville and that
town was severely damaged during the Super Outbreak of tornadoes in
April 1974. New cars from a automobile dealership became airborne and
were dumped into the Ohio River.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Do not ever know what will happen when
Little Miss Molly and I head out for a walk. Yesterday afternoon, for
her, it was so exciting. Immediately out the door, the new dog on the
block, a dachshund two houses away, came racing across the yard to try
to get to Molly. He reached the end of his leash and was jerked
backwards. Molly tried to go down and meet him. All of this set off a
big commotion with two larger dogs on the other side of the hedgerow.
They started barking and trying to reach Molly. Meanwhile, out of the
corner of her eye, she saw the little Yorkie (the love of her life)
approaching on the walk. They raced toward each other at breakneck
speed and had a long play and loving session while the other dogs kept
up the music by barking. Life goes on and it is always exciting.....
