SUNSHINE FOR SATURDAY: Please enjoy Saturday, because that will be
the nicest weather day we have for a while. Afternoon temperatures
will climb into the lower 60s, but they will start off with a frosty
28. Starting Sunday, we will be going through a period of mild weather
and it looks like that could last possibly into the middle of next week.

And you know what mild weather means this time of year—more showers
and thunderstorms. The first ones will show up at some point later
Sunday and increase in number late in the day and at night. There will
be a good chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday as
temperatures top out above 70. Those two days will also be rather
windy with southerly winds anywhere from 15 to 30 mph. We are in for
another good rain event during those storms. Between Sunday and late
Tuesday, do not be surprised to see between 1 and possibly 2 inches of
rain.

LOOK OUT FOR TUESDAY: Ingredients are beginning to mix that could
point to a severe weather day on Tuesday. This is only Friday, so we
cannot be specific, but we will watch it closely as the time melts away.

THE SOAKING RAIN: It was a great rain event yesterday and last night.
I believe that every town and farm in the whole state got at least a
decent amount of rain—enough to be at least temporarily beneficial.
Dozens of communities received over 1 inch of rain and a number of
communities, mainly in South Alabama, received between 2 and 4 inches.
One person in West Alabama said his farm pond rose 4 feet. We have a
long list of rain amounts on the 33/40 weather blog—far too numerous
to repeat here.

A WHAT IF FOR THE GREAT SMOKIES: Mount LeConte, in the Great Smoky
Mountain National Park, had 2 inches of snow on the ground this
morning with a low of 26. It is interesting to note that they received
almost 3 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. If their temperature had
been a few degrees colder, they could easily have received 25 to 30
inches of snow.

THE WORLD AROUND US: Snow is really piling up in many sections of the
country. Another band of snow yesterday covered the Central Plains
into the Midwest. There was a 40-vehicle pile up on I-40 in the Texas
Panhandle. There is still an overdose of bitter cold arctic air in the
Far North. Even this afternoon it was as cold as 45 below in the NW
Territory and 54 below in the north part of the Yukon Territory.
Extremes for the lower 48 states included 83 in Naples, Florida
yesterday and 15 this morning in Alamosa, Colorado.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: One of the most enjoyable things about
writing this little column is the e-mail that we receive. I have lost
count, but we have received well over 3,000 messages since Little Miss
Molly came into our home 5 years ago. I usually do not use them word
for word unless I get permission first, but I wanted to repeat what a
couple in Blount County wrote. "Your stories of Miss Molly are always
so interesting. My wife and I are animal lovers. We live in rural
Blount County where the good Lord sends us strays to take care of. We
have lots of cats, dogs, goats, donkeys, ducks and so on. We always
read the adventures of Miss Molly along with your forecast." That note
made me feel real good. There is something magic about Little Miss
Molly. She can triple my attitude just by walking in my office. I only
know two people that do not like Molly and those two have an extreme
dislike for all dogs, but life goes on......
