...A Good Soaking...

CLOUDS MOVE OUT TODAY: What a soaking! We sure have been lucky
recently to get a whole series of good rain events. Several months ago
it seemed like every rain event fizzled as the system got closer. Late
yesterday and last evening a broad area of moderate to heavy rain,
interspersed with thunderstorms, spread across Alabama. It did so slow
enough that many communities were able to get a drenching. We will
post a run down of rain amounts on the blog later this morning, but
early reports show that numerous communities received over 1 inch.
Here are a few amounts, but they are not complete:

0.90 at Carbon Hill in Walker County0.76 Haleyville0.89 Jasper0.61
Sayre in West Jefferson County1.32 Roebuck in NE Birmingham1.14 Cuba,
0.67 Oxford

Cooler and much drier air will sweep across the area today with
clearing. Temperatures will drop to just under freezing tonight.
Saturday looks real nice with near total sunshine and a high of 61.
After that, some more good rain chances. In fact, we have included
showers for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. It appears that Central
Alabama during that three-day span could get as much as 2 inches of
rain. And how about that 68 high for Monday.

THE WORLD AROUND US: South Florida was spring-like
yesterday with a high of 83 in Naples. Early morning lows included 32
below at International Falls, Minnesota and 47 below at Arctic
Village, Alaska and Mayo in the Yukon Territory of NW Canada. There
was some scattered wind damage across SE Mississippi yesterday
afternoon where a Tornado Watch was posted and there was several
Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly had an
encounter with the CC yesterday. The Community Can and the CR
(Community Rabbit) get her more excited than anything else. I never
have understood why little doggies have that built-in instinct to
chase rabbits and cats. Fortunately, I have her on a leash. The CC
always stops and hisses and Little Miss Molly certainly understands
that language. She will go within about 5 feet of the cat and stop.
Just another little slice of nature before my eyes. Life goes on.
