...Warm Spell Continues...

Clouds kept us from establishing a new record high for the date
yesterday in Birmingham. That stratus deck limited the afternoon high
to 67 degrees. Anniston did manage to establish a new mark for the
date, with a high of 76F. Tuscaloosa weighed in at 72F. Records will
continue to be in jeopardy through Wednesday as a warm and relatively
moist southerly flow continues.

FOR YOUR MONDAY: Skies may start off cloudy in your neck of the woods
once again today. Or there could be some patchy fog. Some drier air
should allow the clouds and fog to burn off more quickly today that
the past couple of days. More sunshine will mean warmer temperatures,
and readings today should generally make the middle to upper 70s.
But, that is what we thought yesterday and to a lesser extent on
Saturday. There will be a slight chance of a shower and perhaps a
storm with the slightly unstable airmass and a weak front positioned
just to our northwest.

TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY: We will continue in a warm southerly flow
through Thursday with generally partly cloudy skies. Shower chances
should be minimal. And temperatures will warm well into the 70s both
days. This will be very close to….

…RECORD TERRITORY: Here are the record highs for today, Tuesday and
Wednesday across Central Alabama: Birmingham….73F, 76F and 78F.
Tuscaloosa…74F, 75F and 79F. Anniston…77F, 73F and 77F. With
projected highs in the middle and upper 70s, some records will likely
be tied or broken, if the clouds cooperate.

LATE WEEK SYSTEM: The GFS model keeps pushing the passage of the
frontal system further back, with the main action now expected during
the day on Thursday. And action may be a bit too strong of a word to
describe our next system. Vigorous low pressure will develop to our
north and northwest late on Wednesday and speed northeastward. As it
does, it will push an area of showers and storms towards Alabama. But
the low will quickly run off and leave the front with little support.
The front should sink down into Central Alabama Thursday night, with
some cooler air filtering in behind it. This air will not be really
cold, just more like normal for this time of year. Meanwhile, a
strong disturbance approaching from the west will bring a return of
rain chances on Friday, and especially Friday night. In fact,
rainfall amounts Friday into early Saturday could be better than those
on Thursday. But still no drought busting rains in sight.

ON THIS DATE IN 1995: Buffalo was buried under 38 inches of lake
effect snow to set a 24-hour record as intense lake effect snow
squalls buffet the city. Watertown NY recorded 39 inches of snow in
just 12 hours, with snow falling at the rate of 4 inches of hour for 6
