A VERY NICE SATURDAY: It will not be quite as cold across Alabama
tonight as it was last night. Here in Central Alabama, we look for an
average low of 36 but over in the valleys of East and Northeast
Alabama, the temperature may drop to near freezing tonight. Generally
the coldest weather so far this season was the story across the state
early today. The temperature dropped to 23 degrees at Ft. Payne
Airport and at Black Creek in northeast Etowah County. There was a
huge frost in Black Creek. It was 24 in Valley Head and Hamilton, 25
in Hanceville, Russellville, and Munford, 26 in Sycamore, and at
Russell Cave National Monument.

Centerville, Sylacauga, Scottsboro, Pinson, and DeSoto State Park all
had 27. It was 31 in Birmingham, 28 in Tuscaloosa.
THE WEEKEND: A milder trend tomorrow. Some scattered clouds but
mostly sunshine. Clouds will thicken Sunday with some scattered
showers. Mild, dry weather is expected early next week. It is
beginning to look like a round of showers and thunderstorms with the
main timeline Wednesday afternoon through Thanksgiving morning. We
will fine tune that later. A cold front will be getting close to
Alabama on Thanksgiving day.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Excellent weather for high school playoff games
tonight. Clear although the temperature will be in the chilly 40s,
excellent for the players. Little or no wind. Louisiana/Monroe will be
at Tuscaloosa for a 1:30 kickoff Saturday. Partly sunny, dry weather
with temperatures peaking around 68 during the game. UAB will be in
Memphis for a 2:30 kickoff. Mostly sunny, 68 at kickoff and near 60 by
the end of the game.

KATRINA AND RITA: An amazing story out of Mississippi and Louisiana
concerning disastrous hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Those two biggies
are now credited with the largest single forestry disaster ever in the
USA. It is estimated that some 320 million trees in Louisiana and
Mississippi alone were killed or severely damaged.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: Three inches of snow on the ground atop Mt.
LaConte in the Great Smoky Mountains this morning with a low
temperature of 10. There was one half inch of snow on Grandfather
Mountain , N.C. and winds gusted at high as 77mph in the last 24
hours. It was 12 this morning in Grand Marias, Mich. for the coldest
in the lower 48. The coldest in Alaska was 15 below at Ambler.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly almost set a record
this morning for sleeping late but with 9 people living in her house,
her sleeping hours are really mixed up. She may be involved in a big
ball game at midnight, or an explosion of energy at 9pm. She is a
little jewel because she never gets upset. That is contagious to
everyone that comes in contact with her. She has created thousands of
smiles through these stories and I deeply appreciate the great emails
the last 5 years. Life goes on.....
