...Another Freeze Late Tonight...

ANOTHER FREEZE AHEAD: Today will be another day with maximum sunshine,
and temperatures well below normal levels for early November in
Alabama. Today's highs will be mostly in the 55 to 59 degree range.
And, tonight, with a clear sky and light wind, temperatures will drop
quickly, and another significant freeze is expected. By daybreak
tomorrow, most spots will be somewhere between 25 and 35 degrees. The
valleys and protected areas will be colder, ridge tops will be warmer.
Some of the normally colder spots will be below freezing for 8 hours
tonight.

A warming trend begins tomorrow afternoon as we reach the low to mid
60s, and by the time the weekend arrives, afternoon highs will be in
the 68 to 72 degree range. The air remains very dry, and the sky will
stay mostly clear through Sunday. Another excellent weekend is ahead
for the high school playoff and college football games across the Deep
South.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like our next chance of showers and thunderstorms
will come on Tuesday of next week; a strong upper trough will be
moving in from the west, and with any degree of instability we might
be dealing with strong to severe thunderstorms. For now it looks like
the kind of system that could produce 1/2 to one inch of rain. Then,
another surge of colder air blows in here a week from today; that
airmass looks very similar to the one we have in place now.

ACROSS THE FRUITED PLAIN: Some of the heavier rain totals around the
nation yesterday included 1.42" at Erie, PA (where the high was only
44) and 1.33" at Buffalo, NY. Coldest spot in the nation was 8 degrees
below zero at Northway, Alaska. Coldest in the "lower 48" was
Hettinger and Minot, North Dakota with 3 degrees. Many Alabama
communities were below freezing this morning for the first time since
April; we will run down a list of lows on the afternoon edition later
today.

STORM ALERT XTREME: We hope to see you his Saturday (November 10) at
the BJCC for our annual severe storm training session. Once again this
year, the Alabama International Auto Show is a sponsor of Storm Alert
XTREME, and it will be held at the BJCC. This is your chance to learn
more about Alabama weather, and to be trained as a storm spotter. ABC
33/40 Meteorologist Brian Peters, long time WCM (Warning Coordination
Meteorologist) for the National Weather Service in Birmingham, will
teach a basic and advanced course on spotting small scale features
within thunderstorms that are very important to meteorologists. And,
remember, if you attend Storm Alert Xtreme, you get free admission
into the Alabama International Auto Show!
