...Clouds May Hide Sky Show Tonight...

A pleasant Saturday morning is in progress across
Alabama. Temperatures are coldest in the east, where a light freeze
has occurred in many locations. Temperatures are warmer over western
sections, where a warming trend has commenced. That warming trend
will give us highs in the middle and upper 60s today with ample
sunshine. Clouds will be on the increase tonight and there could be a
few showers by morning. With a passing disturbance, showers will be
possible on Sunday, with highs again in the 60s.

HOLIDAY WEEK: Skies will be partly cloudy on Monday and
Tuesday, and highs will edge up to near 70s degrees both days. Clouds
will increase late in the day on Tuesday and there could be a few
showers Tuesday night. Look for a good chance of rain and storms
Wednesday night. Thanksgiving should feature clearing skies and
colder conditions that will hang around into the weekend. There is
still a great deal of uncertainty concerning a potential snowstorm
over the Rockies and out onto the Plains that could have a big impact
on a busy travel week.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Louisiana/Monroe will be at
Tuscaloosa for a 1:30 kickoff this afternoon against the Crimson Tide.
Partly sunny, dry weather with
temperatures peaking around 68 during the game. The UAB Blazers will
be in Memphis for a 2:30 kickoff. Mostly sunny, 68 at kickoff and near
60 by the end of the game. Auburn is resting up for next week's Iron
Bowl battleā€¦

A NAME THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY: Sidr. It is Arabic
for jujube tree. The name will go down in history as one of the
deadly tropical cyclones on record. It struck eastern Bangladesh
Thursday night and the death toll is already over one thousand,
despite a mass exodus of over a half million people from low lying
areas. Top winds were 150 mph and the storm surge is estimated to
have been twenty feet. Bangladesh is no stranger to huge death tolls,
having played host to ten of the twenty deadliest tropical cyclones in
world history including a 1991 Category Five storm that killed 140,000
people and Tropical Cyclone Bhola, which killed 500,000 in 1970.

LEONIDS: The Leonids Meteor Shower peaks tonight as the
Earth swings through the dusty debris of the comet Temple-Tuttle. The
best time will be after midnight, during the pre-dawn hours on
Sunday. Try to find a position away from city lights for best
viewing. You don't have to concentrate your viewing on one specific
section of the sky. Scan around to see what you see. The only
problem will be the clouds. Expected cloudiness may spoil the show.

A FAMOUS LEONID SHOW: An incredible Leonid Meteor
Shower display across the central and western United States occurred
on this date in 1966. Forty meteors per second were observed just
before dawn at the Kitt Peak Observatory in southern Arizona. It
appears that every thirty three or thirty four years, the Leonid
Meteor Shower produces an incredible display somewhere in the world.
The cause of the enhanced displays relates to the parent comet that
produces the shower.
