WIDESPREAD FROST TONIGHT: First we must cheer loudly about the rain
across Alabama in the last 24 hours. Fortunately many sections of the
state receive beneficial rain without any significant wind damage.
Since we are in the middle of a drought that will be remembered and
discussed for years, the rain event was truly uplifting. We all know
that it was not a drought breaker. No one rain event can do that. We
have posted an extensive list of rain amounts on the 33/40 blog, in
fact, the longest list we have ever attempted. There is no way we can
repeat the list here but we do want to mention a few places that got
more than one inch.

1.09 Anniston Airport (they have one of the worst rain deficits in the
state)
1.60 Brillant (Marion County)
1.44 SW Huntsville
1.02 Roebuck (NE part of Birmingham)
1.08 West Trussville
1.14 Moody
1.50 Scottsboro

Low temperatures tonight will average about 30 across Central Alabama
but as low as 23-25 in some of the colder valleys. Because there is
plenty of surface moisture available, there will be a widespread
frost. Temperatures will recover over the weekend with highs Saturday
and Sunday in the upper 60s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Clear but chilly for high school playoff games
Friday night. Temperatures in the 40s but little or no wind. Louisiana/
Monroe will be at Alabama for a 1:30 Saturday kickoff. Mostly sunny
with temperatures peaking 68 to 70 during the game. UAB is at Memphis
for a 2:30 game. Mostly sunny, 65 at kickoff, 50s in the fourth quarter.

OUR WEATHER WORLD: There was a tornado west of Chattanooga yesterday
afternoon. Tennessee also hit it lucky in the rain department with
2.80 inches at Nashville, 1.60 at Knoxville, and 1.51 in Chattanooga.
1.46 fell atop Mt. LaConte after the rain, a sharp cold front dropped
their temperature to 22 this morning. Coldest in the lower 48 was zero
at Antero Reservoir in Colorado. Coldest in Alaska was 11 below zero
at Ft. Yukon.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I am semi-tired today because of late
hours last night but I was working with a big smile on my face because
of all the rain. The only downside was the occasional thunder which
happened often enough to keep Little Miss Molly in hiding or on the
move. She often walks room to room with a worried look if the thunder
is not too close. She was so happy to curl up on our king size bed
after 11pm. Life goes on. Molly and I both are chicken when it comes
to lightning....
