STORMS TONIGHT: A strong cold front will be a significant part of our
weather story. The front will arrive in Central Alabama late tonight.
Along and ahead of the front, there will be showers and thunderstorms.
The Storm Prediction Center has mentioned a slight risk of a few of
those storms becoming severe for the Northwest part of the state. That
slight risk area is from about the Gadsden-Birmingham-Tuscaloosa area
northward. That is an arbitrary line of course. It appears that the
main energy from this storm system may be more so across Tennessee,
extreme Northeast Alabama and eastward. A severe thunderstorm watch is
in effect until 8pm for the extreme NW.

It is difficult to determine how much rain we will get in Central
Alabama. We think it will be close to ½ inch with a few spots getting
locally heavier amounts. The cold front should move across late
tonight and by morning, you will note a distinct change to cooler with
temperatures in the upper 40s and brisk NW winds setting in. That will
contrast rather sharply with temperatures well into the 70s this
afternoon. We're calling for a high of only 57 tomorrow. The coldest
temperature will be at daybreak Friday when we expect a good frost and
an average low of 32. However the colder valleys will have lows in the
upper 20s.

OUR WEATHER WORLD: The temperature drop to one above zero in
Yellowstone National Park for the coldest in the lower 48. The low in
Alaska was 15 below zero at Artic Village at Fort Yukon. Another sign
of winter, Barrow, Alaska has accumulated 11 inches of snow, 15 inches
at McGrath and 18 inches at Whittier. That location accumulates a
bunch of snow during the winter. The hottest in the US yesterday was
93 at Fullerton, California. The showers and storms that moved down
into North Alabama dumped almost one inch of rain on Hamilton and
about one third in a number of locations.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly had me out early this
morning for a long walk. A lot of autumn leaves already on the ground.
She made me stop at least 50 times while she poked her little nose
under some of the bigger leaves to see what was under there. She is a
nosey little rascal. One of the grandkids played a lot with her last
night and when she finally went to bed, she promptly curled up and
went to sleep and slept till 8:30 this morning. Anne Thomas, one of
our regular readers, finally got to meet Molly last night and they
became instant friends that will go on forever. Molly is just that
type. Life goes on…

FINAL THOUGHTS: Sure enjoyed doing a weather presentation last night
for the Jefferson County Master Gardeners Graduation Exercise at the
Botanical Gardens. Many thanks to Anne Thomas, Harold Deason, and Tony
Glover for the invite and the hospitality. Not to mention a great
meal. That is a fine group of folks and they have a great sense of
humor because my presentations tend to be a bit silly at times. We had
great fun.....
