NOT AS COLD TONIGHT: There will be a few surprises on the thermometer
across North and Central Alabama tonight. While we are calling for an
average low of 36 along the I-20 corridor, look for low temperatures
closer to freezing in a number of the east and NE Alabama valleys.
Tomorrow should feature a quick warm up as the cold air dome moves on
to the east. We do not see another major change to colder for the rest
of the week and through the weekend and even into the middle of next
week. By this weekend, including Veteran's Day, the high should be
near 70. There will be some scattered clouds, but more sun than clouds
for the next several days. It was plenty cold across the state again
last night. In Moody, 33/40 Skywatcher, Matt Padgett, reported
temperatures below freezing for 9 hours with some freeze damage to
plants. Their low was 27. Again today we have a long list of low
temperatures on the Weather Blog. Some of the coldest included 21 at
Muscadine; 22 at Black Creek, Cottondale and DeSoto State Park; 23 at
Crossville, Ft. Payne, Mumford, Sycamore; and 24 at Hubbertville.

THE RAIN SITUATION: As of today, the deficiency at Birmingham Airport
for 2007 is 20.64 inches. Our total so far is 25.23 inches—less than
one-half of what we had received last year at this time, which was
52.25 inches. Ashville has received only 21 inches of rain this year.
The next rain event will be early next week. We get mixed signals from
models about the timing on the best chance, but it appears that it
will be later Tuesday or Wednesday, probably more so on Wednesday.

A METEOROLOGY MINUTE: Hourly weather observations all over the world
record the wind speed in knots. Here in the USA, when those reports
are released to the public, it is translated to mph. If you want to
change knots to mph, multiply by 1.15. So, 100 knots would be 115 mph.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Looks like excellent weather for high school and
college games with fair dry weather expected everywhere. For high
school games in Central Alabama, the temperature will fall into the
50s during the game. On Saturday, Alabama will be at Starkville to
play Mississippi State with an early kick off at 11:30—mostly sunny,
66 at kick off rising to 72 later in the game. Auburn will be in
Athens for a key game with Georgia. It should be 68 and clear for the
2:30 p.m. kick off, dropping into the 50s during the second half.
Central Florida will be at UAB for a 6:30 start. Temperatures will be
falling into the 60s.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I walked through the living area one
time this morning to retrieve about my 8th cup of coffee. The majority
owner was sitting in the recliner hugging our 10-month old grandson,
but Little Miss Molly was competing for attention nestling on the
footrest. Last night in our king size bed, she stayed huddled tightly
against one or the other all night. So neat. Life goes on.....
