ANOTHER FREEZE TONIGHT: Temperatures were below freezing over a large
part of North and Central Alabama early this morning. The freezing
temperatures extended at least halfway down the state. Here is a short
list of some of the colder temperatures. A complete list of morning
lows can be found on the ABC 33/40 weather blog, including some lows
from other sections of the country also.

22 in Cottondale
23 Hamilton, Black Creek
24 Odenville
25 Pinson, Ft. Payne, Mumford
26 Rainbow City, Decatur, Concord/Hueytown
27 Scottsboro, Talladega, SW Huntsville
28 Birmingham, DeSoto State Park, Cullman, Fayette, Centreville,
Vinemont

We expect it to be just as cold tonight, because a high-pressure area
will be over us. The dew point this afternoon was as low as 18 across
Central Alabama. The sky will be clear and winds light. A warming
trend will start tomorrow and by this weekend, afternoon temperatures
will be 70 or better. The latest model run tends to push the decent
chance of showers and maybe some thunderstorms back a bit to about
Wednesday instead of Tuesday.

MISCELLANEOUS: The temperature fell to 9 degrees in Philippi, West
Virginia this morning. It was 12 on Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky
Mountains and 17 on Mt. Mitchell, North Carolina. The coldest in the
lower 48 was 10 at Kremmling, Colorado. Coldest in Alaska was 15 below
at Anaktuvuk Pass. As much as 12 inches of new snow in Upper Michigan
at Champion and 7 inches at Marquette.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Don't forget to show up at 8:30 Saturday morning
at the BJCC in downtown Birmingham. There will be morning and
afternoon sessions with spotter training and a lot more. If you come
to that, you can also attend the automobile show free.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I sure enjoyed speaking to the
Trussville Rotary Club early this morning. Thanks to Hale Vick for the
invite. We met at the new Marriott in Trussville at the Pinnacle.
Great view from atop the ridge and a yummy, yummy breakfast. I often
wonder what would have happened if some of the tyrants of the world
had a little doggie to calm them down. For example, if Hitler could
have had a Little Miss Molly, maybe he would not have had a
determination to rule the world. She has a calming effect on everybody
and is a true ambassador. Life goes on and I stay calm because of
Molly.....
