* AT 930 AM CDT...LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
AGENCIES CONTINUE TO REPORT PROBLEMS WITH PROLONGED STANDING WATER
AND WASHED OUT ROADWAYS. THEREFORE...AN AREAL FLOOD WARNING HAS
BEEN ISSUED THROUGH THE MID AFTERNOON HOURS. WEATHER SERVICE RADAR
IS DETECTING ONLY SPORADIC LIGHT RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA THAT
CONTINUES TO DETERIORATE. NO ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL IS
EXPECTED FOR THE REMINDER OF THE DAY...BUT FLOOD WATERS ARE
EXPECTED TO RECEDE AT A VERY SLOW RATE.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL...RANGING FROM 7 INCHES ALONG
THE I-10 CORRIDOR UP TO TWO FEET AROUND THE GULF BREEZE AREA...THE
PAST TWO DAYS CONTINUES TO CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND
STREAMS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY...COUNTRY ROADS AND
FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS...STREAMS AND OTHER LOW LYING
AREAS ARE SUBJECT TO FLOODING.
FLOOD WATERS ARE MOVING DOWN THE SHOAL RIVER. THE FLOOD CREST IS
EXPECTED TO REACH 1.3 ABOVE FLOOD STAGE AT CRESTVIEW OVER THE
WEEKEND.
MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.
