30s IN THE COLDER VALLEYS TONIGHT: That does not mean that everybody
across North and Central Alabama will see the tired old thermometer
go below the 40-degree mark, but in the traditional cold spots of
North Alabama, look for some temperatures in the mid to upper 30s.
Some of those places are Bridgeport, Valley Head, Pinson,
Collinsville and maybe DeSoto State Park. Ft. Payne Airport is in the
bottom of the valley. They could have about 38. There could be just a
few clouds crossing the NE corner of Alabama late tonight, but most
areas will be sparkling clear. It was plenty cool this afternoon.
Temperatures were only in the upper 60s after lunch with dew points
in the 30s. There was a nice early morning chill. Here is a sample of
some of the coolest overnight lows.

39 at Black Creek (NE Etowah County); 40 at Moulton, Decatur, Russell
Cave National Monument; 43 at Ft. Payne, Meridianville, and Sycamore;
44 at Cottondale, Crossville and DeSoto State Park; 45in Pinson and
Collinsville; 49 at Birmingham and Anniston; 53 at Tuscaloosa.

The pleasant autumn temperatures will continue for several more days.
The temperature should recover to about 82 Sunday and 84 Monday, but
nights will still be pleasantly cool. We do not foresee any rain
until early next week about Tuesday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Could not ask for better. For high school games
Friday night, clear and cool, about 65 at kick off and dropping to
the upper 50s. In college games, Alabama is at Old Miss for an 11:00
a.m. kick off Saturday. It should be sunny with about 73 at the start
rising to 78 during the game. Auburn will be in Fayetteville to play
Arkansas in a 6:45 kick off. Fair weather expected, about 70 at kick
off and lowering into the 60s. Tulane will be in Birmingham to play
UAB at 6:00 p.m. Clear weather, 68 at kick off, 62 at final whistle.

TROPICAL WEATHER: A low-pressure area about 800 miles ESE of Bermuda
is in an unfavorable area for development, but if the thunderstorms
increase and organize just slightly, it could become a tropical
depression. It should move NE and become absorbed in a frontal
boundary. There is a lot of shower activity from the NW Caribbean
across Cuba, the Bahamas and a few hundred miles into the Atlantic.
Tropical development is not expected despite all of that.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: A nice crisp 27 atop Mt. LeConte in the Great
Smokies this morning. It was 32 on Newfound Gap. In North Carolina,
it was 30 on Mt. Mitchell and 32 at Beech Mountain and Grandfather
Mountain. It was 5 above at Arctic Village, Alaska and 21 at Alturas,
California.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: A busy, busy lifestyle in Molly's
abode. She absolutely does not lack for attention at any time. She is
a nosy little rascal having to know everything that is going on. That
is a deficit for her, because she is getting far less sleep than she
is accustomed to during the daylight hours. When she finally gets in
bed at night, it takes about 15 seconds to completely pass out. I was
wide awake at 4 o'clock this morning, took a short walk and Venus was
big and bright. I was amazed at how clear the sky was after all
summer haze. Life goes on.......
