...Nice Weekend Rolls Along...
Greetings from Oxford, Mississippi. We are at the University of
Mississippi where my son Chris is participating in a cheerleading
clinic. It is beautiful hereā€¦as it is across the border in Alabama.

ANOTHER GREAT MORNING: Under clear skies, temperatures fell mostly
into the 40s overnight with a few upper 30s in the colder locations.
Today will feature brilliant blue skies, a brisk north wind, and
afternoon readings around 70. After another great sleeping night
tonight, Monday promises to be just like today.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Under clear skies, temperatures fell mostly into the
40s overnight with a few upper 30s in the colder locations. Today
will feature brilliant blue skies, a brisk north wind, and afternoon
readings around 70. After another great sleeping night tonight,
Monday promises to be just like today. High pressure should remain
anchored over the Mid-Atlantic States through the week, keeping
Alabama in an easterly flow. A couple of passing disturbances may
produce partly cloudy skies at times. A dry front will pass through
Thursday night as a strong storm moves through the Great Lakes states.

HURRICANE FOR HALLOWEEN? Tropical Depression 16 formed late last
evening over the Caribbean south of the island of Hispaniola as wind
shear relaxed and convection exploded. There is uncertainty in the
models about the track, but the feeling is that it will move northwest
and then eventually northeast, crossing the Bahamas and heading into
the open Atlantic eventually. It will likely become a tropical storm
later today and be named Noel but strengthening should be slow for the
next day or so. There are indications that it could become a
hurricane while it is near the Bahamas. A disturbance in the
northwestern Caribbean near the Yucatan should continue westward into
the Bay of Campeche. It should not develop into anything.

NOVEMBER SEVERE WEATHER? There are hints that we could deal with a
strong system around Monday the 6th followed by a big trough and
another strong system around November 11th.

ON THIS DATE IN 1846: A group of inexperienced travelers was caught
unawares by a major storm which dumped five feet of snow on the Sierra
Nevada Mountinas in California. Their wagons and cattle were trapped
in a mountain canyon along with them. Only 45 of the 79 people in the
party survived the winter. The group came to be known as the Donner
Party, apart of western folklore.

ON THIS DATE IN 1998: A crew of thirty-one men aboard the Windjammer
Cruises 282 foot long, four masted sailboat, the Fantome battled fifty
foot waves and 115 mph winds as Hurricane Mitch sealed their doom in
the Caribbean. The crew put to sea to avoid being in port during the
hurricane and spent two harrowing days as the storm unexpectedly
turned towards them and then stalled. All that was ever found of the
ship was two life rafts and 8 life vests off Honduras, stenciled
"Fantome."
