A NICE WEEKEND: We are still reluctant to use the word nice when we
are in the middle of a drought, but after a stormy night, the weather
will improve quickly tomorrow morning and the weekend should feature
mostly sunny weather and much lower humidity, cool early mornings and
very comfortable afternoons.

ABOUT TONIGHT: A cold front is still to our west and it will have to
come through Central Alabama late tonight or in the very early hours
of Friday. A new line of thunderstorms had already formed across
Mississippi this afternoon and were moving into NW and West Alabama.
NWS had issued at least 2 tornado warnings and a new Tornado Watch
was in effect for a number of NW and West Alabama Counties until
11:00 p.m. There may be some other warnings this afternoon and tonight.

We had something happen today that is not that unusual at all.
Numerous showers and thunderstorms moved onshore along the coast in
the pre-dawn hours and persisted a good part of today. This tended to
cut off or block abundant moisture from reaching North Alabama, so
our rain amounts today were not as heavy as we anticipated. However,
there will be some heavy rain amounts along the line of storms as
they cross the area ahead of the cold front overnight. Down in SW
Alabama, Jackson was drenched with well over 4 inches of rain. A
number of other communities received between 1 and 3 inches. In the
NW Florida Panhandle, a lot of places undoubtedly had over 3 inches.
A tornado touched down in downtown Pensacola this morning and caused
spotty, but fairly significant, damage. There was damage at the
city's largest shopping mall. Police reported some cars flipped over
on I-10.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Tennessee will be playing Alabama in Tuscaloosa
Saturday. It should be all sunshine with low humidity and light
winds. About 75 degrees for the 11:30 kick off with a high near 80
during the game. Auburn will be in Baton Rouge to play LSU at 8:00
p.m. Clear, comfortable weather with 77 at kick off and in the 60s
during the second half. UAB will host Houston at Legion Field at 6:00
p.m. It will be about 70 at kick off lowering quickly into the 60s.
For Friday night high school games, clear pleasant weather is
expected with temperatures in the upper 60s at kick off and about 62
at the final whistle.

AROUND THE USA: As many as 17 tornadoes reported in the last 24
hours and they were scattered over a rather broad area and some
produced significant damage. One struck downtown Pensacola this
morning. We had a report of 2 fatalities at Paris, Missouri, possibly
from a tornado. More than 40 people were injured in the Tulsa area
while at an outdoor festival and about 25 were transported to local
hospitals.

It has been a busy 24 hours with very little sleep and very little
chance of sleep tonight, but we are used to that and we do not
complain. Life goes on......
