...Dry Weekend Weather...
DRIER AIR ROLLS IN TODAY: Any lingering showers and storms this
morning will end quickly as drier air moves into Alabama from the
west. Morning clouds will give way to a sunny afternoon sky, with a
high in the upper 70s and lower humidity levels. Tonight will be
noticeably cooler, and by daybreak tomorrow we should be in the 47 to
51 degree range.
The weekend will feature sunny warm days and clear cool nights, and
there is no chance of rain through Sunday. Then, early next week,
another dynamic storm system rolls in here with a chance of showers
and thunderstorms on Monday, followed by a sharp change to cooler
weather during the mid-week period.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Tennessee will be playing Alabama in Tuscaloosa
tomorrow. It should be all sunshine with low humidity and light
winds. About 75 degrees for the 11:30 kick off with a high near 80
during the game. Auburn will be in Baton Rouge to play LSU at 8:00
p.m. Clear, comfortable weather with 77 at kick off and in the 60s
during the second half. UAB will host Houston at Legion Field at 6:00
p.m. It will be about 70 at kick off lowering quickly into the 60s.
For tonight's high school games, clear pleasant weather is expected
with temperatures in the upper 60s at kick off and about 62 at the
final whistle. It will be great night for football.
STORMY THURSDAY: A number of tornado warnings over far West Alabama
kept us on the air much of the afternoon yesterday; one small tornado
touched down just southwest of Haleyville with some scattered damage
along Alabama Highway 129, and there was also some tree and power
line damage in Pickens County. A number of reports of wall clouds and
funnel clouds were received late in the day through parts of Greene
and Tuscaloosa counties, but that severe storm weakened as it moved
into downtown Tuscaloosa.
To the south, an EF1 tornado touched down in Pensacola during the
late morning hours, and was responsible for some significant property
damage and at least four injuries, according to the National Weather
Service.
STORM ALERT XTREME: We hope to see you on Saturday, November 10 at
the BJCC for our annual severe storm training session. Once again
this year, the Alabama International Auto Show is a sponsor of Storm
Alert XTREME, and it will be held at the BJCC. This is your chance to
learn more about Alabama weather, and to be trained as a storm
spotter. ABC 33/40 Meteorologist Brian Peters, long time WCM (Warning
Coordination Meteorologist) for the National Weather Service in
Birmingham, will teach a basic and advanced course on spotting small
scale features within thunderstorms that are very important to
meteorologists. After a severe weather day like yesterday, we always
get questions about becoming a volunteer severe weather spotter; this
is your one chance to get trained and get started. There is no cost,
and no need to register. Just show up!
