SHOWERS ENDING, SUNSHINE RETURNS TOMORROW: We do not want the
sunshine. I know most people like a pretty day, but personally I
would gladly trade the sunshine for an all-day steady rain, about 2
inches worth. No chance in getting that. In fact, after today's
showers we do not see much chance of any more rain through the early
part of next week, possibly some by around next Tuesday. Since we
cannot have the rain, we might as well enjoy the changeover to autumn-
like conditions. This includes some low temperatures in the upper 40s
and lower 50s and some highs in the 70s with much lower humidity. We
still look for about 85 tomorrow before a second front comes in and
brings a noticeable change to cooler. See our day-by-day forecast for
all of the details.

TODAY'S RAIN EVENT: Quite a few people got rain, but it was not a
statewide drenching, by any means. A broad line of showers moved into
West Alabama around daybreak and moved slowly eastward. A few fairly
strong thunderstorms developed in the heat of the day over East
Alabama. Here in Central Alabama we could still see a few showers
this evening followed by clearing overnight. Just a few sample rain
amounts: 0.68 at Sayre, 0.33 at Anniston Airport, 0.37 at Demopolis,
0.20 at Tuscaloosa Airport and only 0.18 at Birmingham Airport.

TROPICAL WEATHER: There was a low-pressure area near the Yucatan
Peninsula coast about 75 miles ENE of Chetumal, Mexico. It has
remained unchanged so far today and the recon flight was cancelled.
It is so close to land, that it probably will not have time to
develop. Nothing else going on in the tropics.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: Some cold temperatures setting in over the
Rockies as the snow cover increases. The coldest in the lower 48 this
morning was 12 at Doylesville, Colorado. It was 21 at Gould and
Dillon, Colorado, 22 at Bryce Canyon, Utah and 23 at Randolph, Utah.
The coldest in Alaska was 3 above zero at good old Deadhorse. Hottest
temperature yesterday was 99 at East Mesa, Arizona. Over in
Mississippi, there was almost 1 inch of rain overnight at Louisville
and 0.69 on the Old Miss campus at Oxford. The normal annual rain
amount for San Francisco is only 20.11 inches. San Diego receives
less than 11 inches a year.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly is spending more and
more time sitting on my desk or either curled up asleep by my
keyboard. It is her escape mechanism from the noise of a full house
that looks more like a motel instead of a home. I like having the
little girl this close to me. Sometimes I pause and talk to Molly
just like she is a little human. Believe it or not, she will sit
there and look me right in the eye from only a couple of inches away
like she understands everything that I am saying. It is relaxing to
talk to her. I can get a lot off my shoulders, then I give her a nice
rubdown. She told me after our last talk that my eyes look like a Los
Angeles street map. That means I did not get enough sleep. Life goes
on and Molly and I will be around a long, long time....
