CHANCE OF SHOWERS LATE IN THE WEEK: The month of October came on the
scene like it often does with crisp, clear, cool weather. By
daybreak, low temperatures were generally in the 40s and 50s. Here is
a representative sampling from around the state:
42 in Belle Mina
44 in Ashland and Muscadine
45 Odenville, Hamilton, Rock Mills
46 Moulton, Cullman Airport, Talladega, Meridianville
47 Hanceville, Scottsboro, Muscle Shoals
48 Pinson, SW Huntsville, Decatur, Concord/Hueytown, Valley Head
51 Anniston, Huntsville, Troy, Tuscaloosa, Livingston
55 Auburn, Birmingham, Guntersville, DeSoto State Park
Looks like two more days of mostly sunshine and, with clear cool
nights, afternoons will be gradually getting warmer with mid to upper
80s for the middle and latter part of this week. We see a slight
chance of a shower or thunderstorm later Thursday and widely
scattered showers and thunderstorms on Friday (a slightly better
chance).
TROPICAL WEATHER: Our main interest is a weak low-pressure area over
the NW Bahamas producing showers and thunderstorms in South Florida.
This low is expected to move westward across Florida and then across
most of the Gulf of Mexico. There is a chance that it will show some
tropical characteristics in the next couple of days. Melissa is
pretty much history, dissipating into a low-pressure area 665 miles
west of the Cape Verde Islands. The last public advisory has been
issued. The remnants of Karen extended from the North Leeward Islands
eastward for several hundred miles and not expected to regroup.
OUR WEATHER WORLD: Over 2 inches of rain over the last 24 hours at
Miami and over 1 inch at Seattle. 99 was the USA high Sunday at Casa
Grande, Arizona. Cold spots this morning 23 at Alamosa, Colorado and
14 at Arctic Village, Alaska.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Something real strange going on at
Little Miss Molly's abode and the something strange is Molly herself.
We have described for years how Molly rings a tiny bell hanging from
the back doorknob when she needs to go potty. Recently, every time
our granddaughter sneezes, Molly races to the back door and knocks
the living daylights out of that bell. We don't understand. Maybe she
thinks the granddaughter needs to go, but it is funny. The little
girl always keeps ahead of us. Life goes on......
