ANNOUNCING
The ADA's "Step Out to Fight Diabetes"

"Step Out to Fight Diabetes" is the American Diabetes Association's
2007 fund-raising walk scheduled October 7th, 2007, at Linn Park.
Donations go to support ADA's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes
and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

More than 20 million Americans fight Diabetes daily, with Alabama
ranking in the top ten states with the highest number of diabetics
per capita!

I'm working towards a $10,000 goal and would appreciate your support
very much. Please make your tax deductible donation to the American
Diabetes Association by going to:

BEST CHANCE FOR RAIN LATER THURSDAY: The temperatures we are having
now are as much as 10 degrees too warm for late September. Some parts
of Alabama had exceeded the 90-degree mark again this afternoon.
Yesterday, almost all of Alabama had 90 or better. It was 93 in Pinson
—a record for September 24.

Look for another unseasonably warm day tomorrow, although not quite
as warm as today. We think Wednesday will be another dry day,
although we could not rule out an isolated shower over close to the
Mississippi border. Thursday still stands out like a sore thumb for
our best chance at rain. All the information we can study points to a
line of showers and thunderstorms reaching Central Alabama either
late in the day or possibly even after dark. Since this will be a
fairly quick-moving event, we cannot get too happy about projected
rain amounts. We may be lucky to get ½ inch across Central Alabama.

After that front goes through, all indications point to a very
pleasant weekend if we can just forget the need for rain. Highs will
be in the mid 80s and lows close to 60. The humidity will be
noticeably lower, especially Friday and Saturday.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Tropical Storm Karen is the latest in our parade
of tropical systems. At midday, she had sustained winds of 40 mph,
meaning she was barely a tropical storm. She was way out in the
Atlantic and current projections are for her to curve more northward
by Friday and Saturday into the open Atlantic and will probably not
bother the USA. Really, our main interest is our old friend the Gulf
of Mexico. A tropical depression apparently is forming over the SW
Gulf some 180 miles east of Tampico, Mexico. A recon flight will
visit the area this afternoon, but little movement is expected in the
next 24 hours. A larger area of thunderstorms in a broad area of low-
pressure, was centered in the Lesser Antilles. It has changed little
and upper-level winds are becoming less favourable. Another area of
disturbed weather over South Florida, Western Cuba and the Western
Bahamas is because of a mid to upper-level low pressure trough.
Little development expected right away, but it could still dump
locally heavy rain on South Florida and the Keys.

OUR WEATHER WORLD: A distinct hint of our coming change of season.
Famed Trail Ridge Road in Central Colorado was closed due to adverse
weather, meaning snow. 5 inches of snow fell at Alta, Utah in the
Wasatch Mountains SE of Salt Lake from this cold weather system and 2
inches at Lander, Wyoming. The temperature dropped to 18 this morning
at Antero Reservoir, Colorado this morning. It was 21 at Jarvie
Ranch, Utah and 22 at several other locations in the Rockies.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: A quick personal note. I think I may
have accidentally deleted 25 or 30 e-mails recently, so if you have e-
mailed me and received no answer, please do so again. Little Miss
Molly sure does love to find a sunny spot to curl up and go to sleep.
This morning I found her by the front door in a patch of sun, dead to
the world and three of her favorite balls cuddled with her: one under
her chin and the others against her belly. She would make an
excellent manager for a doggie baseball team. She stays prepared. She
places her balls at strategic locations so when someone walks through
the living area, she can grab one and be ready to play in less than 3
seconds. Of course, she has a lot of takers. Life goes on......
