The ADA's "Step Out to Fight Diabetes"

"Step Out to Fight Diabetes" is the American Diabetes Association's
2007 fund-raising walk scheduled October 7th, 2007, at Linn Park.
Donations go to support ADA's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes
and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

More than 20 million Americans fight Diabetes daily, with Alabama
ranking in the top ten states with the highest number of diabetics
per capita!

I'm working towards a $10,000 goal and would appreciate your support
very much. Please make your tax deductible donation to the American

...A Fine Fall Weekend Ahead...

COOL NIGHTS AHEAD: Dry, continental air will flow into Alabama today
with a fresh north breeze. This airmass will set the stage for a
beautiful early autumn weekend, with sunny pleasant days and clear
cool nights. It now looks like most of North Alabama will be in the
50s both tomorrow and Sunday morning around daybreak, with afternoon
highs in the 82 to 86 degree range.
The dry weather will continue into the first two days of next week,
but moist, tropical air should return during the latter half of the
week, and that seems to be our next chance of showers and Thursday
(Thursday and Friday, October 4-5). There is even some hint of a
tropical type system in the northern Gulf of Mexico that will move in
our general direction.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: What a great night tonight for high school
football, with clear, dry weather, low humidity and about 75 degrees
at kickoff. In college football, the Alabama/Florida State game will
be in Jacksonville at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. Still a risk of some
scattered showers with about 82 at kickoff. Auburn plays Florida at
Gainesville with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. It should be about 82 degrees,
but still a few showers and storms possible early in the game. UAB is
at Tulsa for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. Clear with 85 degrees as the game
starts and falling into the 70s with a brisk south wind.

TOPIC: TROPICS: Lorenzo is making landfall this morning on the
Mexican Gulf coast, well south of Brownsville, Texas, as a category
one hurricane. This system will rain itself out over Mexico in coming
days. Out in the middle of the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Karen is
fighting some pretty serious shearing aloft; it is moving in a
generally northwest direction, and that should continue into early
next week. If the system survives, there is some risk it could turn
back to the west, in the direction of the Atlantic coast of the U.S.,
late next week.
Elsewhere across the Atlantic basin, disturbed weather continues off
the east coast of the U.S., but that will merge with a cold front and
tropical storm formation is not expected. Another wave is approaching
the Bahamas, but hostile upper air winds should keep that one from
becoming better organized. And, a tropical wave is moving through the
far eastern Atlantic; no sign of any surface circulation right now.

THURSDAY'S SHOWERS: Unfortunately, rain was rather light and spotty
across Alabama yesterday and last night. Rain totals included 1.02"
at Ellisville (Cherokee County), .78" at Dearmanville (east of
Anniston), .52" at Cheaha State Park (from the ABC 33/40 Skycam
network), .47" at Jemison, .29" at Ashland, and .17" at Munford. The
Birmingham Airport only reported a trace of rain, and the rain
deficiency for the year is up to 17.77". The rain was heavier along
the cold front to the north of Alabama; Louisville reported 1.39",
while the total at Cincinnati was 1.80".
