ALABAMA ONE CALL

KNOW WHAT'S BELOW
CALL 811 BEFORE YOU DIG

Whether planning to do it yourself or hire a professional excavator,
smart
digging means calling 811 before each job to find out where it's safe
to dig.

Every digging project requires a call to Alabama One Call--even small
projects
like building a fence, planting shrubs and trees or installing a
mailbox.

One free easy call to 811 or 205-252-4444 at least 48 hours prior to
digging:

* Gets utility owned lines marked for free!
* Complies with Alabama Act 94-487.
* Helps prevent undesired consequences and possible service
disruptions to
your neighborhood.

Today will mark the ninth consecutive day that we have seen triple
digit heat at the Birmingham Airport. Montgomery has experienced ten
straight days of 100 degree heat. This heat wave is quickly taking
its place as one of the great ones in Alabama history. The mercury
reached 104 at Birmingham yesterday, the hottest day of the current
run and the hottest day here since July 17, 1980. We might well be a
degree hotter today. That would be the hottest ever in August here.
The all time record high in Birmingham is 107.

ANY RELIEF IN SIGHT? It's hard to imagine that we would be grateful
for highs only in the middle 90s, but with our recent hot spell, a
high of 96 looks great. We will see more of that as we head through
the weekend and end to next week and the huge heat bubble begins to
break down and slide a little east by Sunday. We will likely see
100s until then. We will reintroduce the chance of an isolated storm
by Saturday, with slightly better chances by Sunday.

DEAN: Tropical Storm Dean is steaming quickly to the west in the
Atlantic, about 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. The storm
will increasingly find itself over warmer ocean water and wind shear
will be light, so steady intensification is anticipated. It should
become a hurricane during the next twenty four hours. It now appears
likely that Dean will take a more westward track, which will carry it
into the Caribbean. It could become quite an intense hurricane over
the Caribbean. It almost certainly will become a major hurricane.
By late Sunday night, the hurricane will be near the Southwest coast
of Haiti, heading toward Jamaica. It seems highly likely the
hurricane will move into the Gulf. It is way too early to get
specific after that. We will be monitoring it carefully.

ERIN: Convection with our Gulf system flared during the overnight
hours and the system was upgraded to Tropical Storm Erin. Erin has
its sights set on the Texas coast. Winds will not be the main
problem with Erin, but rather the heavy rains. Still, tropical storm
warnings are in effect for the Lower Texas Coast south of Freeport.
Erin will make landfall early tomorrow.
FLOSSIE: Out in the Pacific, Flossie is now a tropical storm, having
been downgraded this morning. Winds have been buffeting the Big
Island overnight with the center of the storm about 100 miles south
of the island. The heavy rain stayed off shore, although winds
gusted to around 60 mph.

ON THIS DATE IN 1969: Tropical Storm Camille formed near the island
of Grand Cayman. From the beginning, it was evident that Camille
would be an explosive storm. First reports from the first
reconnaissance plane indicated the storm had already reached tropical
storm strength and was too strong for the plane to penetrate. So
Camille, with a central pressure of 999 millibars and winds of 55 mph
was christened, bypassing the tropical depression stage. By
afternoon, the storm would already be classified as a hurricane with
a central pressure of 964 millibars.

UNASHAMED!

Wouldn't it be awful to be ashamed of the most important things in
our lives?

Many of us struggle when it comes to standing up for what we believe in.
Like our faith. There are times for all of us when we are tempted to be
ashamed of our faith. Or we downplay our faith so we won't offend
someone.

Wouldn't it be great to live unashamed of our faith? Discover what
it means
to live unashamed of the gospel and of Jesus Christ in a new sermon
series
at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover. Worship and Sunday School
