A WEEK OF EXCESS HEAT: Sometimes we call this kind of weather triple-
H weather and that stands for hot, humid and hazy. That is the best
way to describe our weather for at least all of this week and maybe
longer. It will be dangerously hot at times, especially in the
afternoon. We are calling for high temperatures for the rest of the
week to be between 98 and 100. On some of those days, the dew points
will be well in the 70s. Translation, the heat index will be much
higher topping out on some days as high as 110. See our day-by-day
forecast for the specifics.

When it is this hot, even with limited moisture, it is almost a daily
occurrence that isolated thunderstorms will form during the
afternoon. This is not a time to look for significant drought relief,
because most communities will remain dry and overall the drought will
worsen. Even though we are calling for upper 90s for each afternoon,
some communities will easily reach 100, especially over on the west
side of the state.

TROPICAL WEATHER: The team of hurricane experts, at Colorado State
University in Ft. Collins, backed off a bit on their 2007 seasonal
outlook. They are now calling for 15 named storms in the Atlantic
Basin, including 8 hurricanes and 4 major hurricanes of Category 3 or
higher. The next named storm will be . The Atlantic Basin includes
the Atlantic, Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Very little going on
at this time. A small disturbed weather area was located over the SW
corner of the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon just east of the Mexican
coast. It should move inland later today before it has time to give
us any promise.

LIGHTNING IS FRIGHTENING: A fireman was struck by lightning on
August 6, 1992 in Sarasota County, Florida. Ironically, he was
fighting a fire that was caused by lightning. He was knocked
unconscious.

THE WORLD OF WEATHER: 118 in Death Valley as the hottest in the
country Sunday. That famous weather station has been the hottest an
unusually number of days this summer. The low for the country was 31
at Stanley, Idaho in the midst of the Sawtooth Mountains. Over the
weekend, it dropped as low as 39 at Saranac Lake in Upstate New York.
That part of the country has had a wide swing in temperatures so far
this year and a lot of strong thunderstorms.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I sure did get a kick out of the lead-
off comment from Pastor Tim Lovett at Huffman Baptist yesterday. It
went something like this: "If you tell me you can love everyone
equally, regardless of looks, amount of money, personality,
nationality and religion, you are almost as good as a dog." You
should have seen the broad smile on my face, because a brilliant
image of Little Miss Molly flashed in my mind. There is not a person
in the world that she does not love. In her waking hours, her tail is
wagging almost constantly. I wish I could wag my tail. A thought came
to mind, what if humans had a tail like a dog and in the same
proportion. Can you imagine the swishing and thumping sound at an
Alabama-Auburn game? I assure you I am not losing it. I just have a
vivid imagination. Life goes on even when I get silly.....
