MORE STORMS ARRIVE TOMORROW: As much as we still need rain, it was
nice to get a one-day break featuring lower humidity and cooler
mornings. Up in North Alabama, the temperature dropped all the way
down to 61 at daybreak at DeSoto State Park and Russell Cave National
Monument. It was 63 at Meridianville and 64 in Bankhead National
Forest, Crossville and Cullman.

Give credit for all of this to a cool front that is coming to a halt
somewhere in Central Alabama. We cannot say exactly where. Could be
around Peach Park in Clanton. It will sit there overnight and then
start slowly moving back north starting tomorrow. Naturally, it will
bring moist air with it and we will go right back into a shower and
thunderstorm pattern later tomorrow and on through the weekend.
Indeed, it looks like the mathematical chance of any one community
getting wet Friday and Saturday and maybe Sunday is rather good. It
is likely that a good chunk of Central Alabama will get about 1.50
inches of rain over the next few days and maybe more.

TROPICAL WEATHER: The Atlantic Basin is quiet. In the West Pacific,
a powerful typhoon named Man-Yi was kicking up 38-foot waves. It is
projected to pass near Naha, Okinawa late today Alabama time. By
early Friday, sustained winds are projected to be 150 mph with gusts
to 185. The track forecast carries it along the southern edge of the
Japanese islands and passing just north of Tokyo Sunday morning. My
wife, Judy, has warm memories of Okinawa. Her family was stationed
there about 18 months with her dad being in the Air Force. Judy was
employed by KSAB Christian radio, a 50,000-watt station that also
reached Japan and Taiwan. She was on the air at times doing
children's programming. She graduated from high school on Okinawa.

AT THE BEACH: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will become more
noticeable Friday afternoon with a good chance Saturday and Sunday,
but only a slight chance Monday. Highs between 89 and 92. The water
temperature is very warm—85 to 87.

FOCUS ON OKLAHOMA CITY: I guess we could amend the old saying, to
where it would read, "All is fair in love, war and weather." There
are the haves and have nots. As my friend, Snuffy Smith, would say,
"I can't reckymember" Oklahoma and Texas getting so much rain. As of
this morning, Oklahoma City had received 35.07 inches this year—an
amazing surplus of over 15 inches. Last year at this time, they only
had 14.67. Elsewhere around our great nation, New York City has
received 9 inches of rain in less than 6 weeks and now show a 9-inch
surplus for the year. A nice chilly 44 this morning on Mt. LeConte in
the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. National lows included 41 at
Wakefield, Michigan and 32 at Barrow, Alaska.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Driving all the way across Deerfoot
Parkway this morning, a beautiful drive. The ridges and valleys are
lush green again, as if we did not have a drought. Molly's walking
track has also greened up real good. There has been a proliferation
of little mushrooms (or toadstools, as we call them in Havana
Junction). I have tried to make sure Molly does not gobble one up.
She apparently thinks they are puppy-sized pancakes or moon pies.
But, I have always heard that some types could be poison. It will not
be long until Molly gets another haircut. She is like me, hot
natured, and when we get back off of a fast afternoon walk, she looks
for the tile floor to stretch out where it is cooler. Life goes on.....
