...Goodbye July...

Today we say goodbye to the seventh month of the year. Weatherwise,
it will not go down as a memorable month in the record books. The
normal average high in July is 90.6F. This is the hottest month of
the year in Birmingham. July 2007 will end up a little cooler than
normal, with an average high of 88.7F. The normal average low is
69.7F. We will end up a little warmer than that with an average low
for the month of 71.4F. The hottest day was the 1st, when the mercury
rose to 97F. We should finish the month at 3.43 inches of rainfall,
which is less than the normal of 5.09 inches. 20.12 inches fell in
July 1916. The days are getting shorter and before long, the normal
temperatures will begin to go backwards. We are in what is
climatologically our hottest time of the year.

OUR FORECAST: The boundary that has been responsible for the drier
air across North and Central Alabama is even further south on this
Tuesday morning. I guess you can't totally rule our an isolated
shower or storm today, but it is highly unlikely. It will be hot this
afternoon, almost dangerously so, with heat indices well over the 100F
mark. Take it easy out there if you will be working or exercising.
It's more of the same through the end of the week and probably into
the weekend with mostly dry and hot conditions. Highs will be in the
middle and upper 90s.

TROPICS: Two disturbances being monitored in the tropical Atlantic
today. One is a tropical wave about 1,000 miles east of the Windward
Islands. This system is running into some dry air, and dry air may
keep it from developing in the next couple of days. Still, it shows
some decent organization and must be watched. Our other disturbance,
passing north of Bermuda is running out of time to develop into a
tropical cyclone before it merges with a frontal system.

ON THIS DATE IN 1949: Lightning struck a baseball field at Baker,
Florida while a game is in progress. The shortstop and third baseman
were instantly killed and the second baseman was fatally injured.
Fifty people out of the crowd of three hundred spectators were also
injured. The lightning bolt dug a twenty foot long ditch through the
infield.

ON THIS DATE IN 1961: The Major League Baseball All-Star Game in
Boston's Fenway Park (second of season – they played two each year
between 1959 and 1962) was called because of drizzle at the of nine
innings with the score tied 1-1. The drizzle was caused by a
persistent east wind off of Massachusetts Bay. There have only been
two ties in All-Star Series history: this one and the 2002 game,
which ended in a 7-7 tie after eleven innings when both sides ran out
of pitchers.

UNASHAMED!

Wouldn't it be awful to be ashamed of the most important things in our lives?

Many of us struggle when it comes to standing up for what we believe in.
Like our faith. There are times for all of us when we are tempted to be
ashamed of our faith. Or we downplay our faith so we won't offend someone.

Wouldn't it be great to live unashamed of our faith? Discover what it means
to live unashamed of the gospel and of Jesus Christ in a new sermon series
at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover beginning Sunday, August 12.
Worship and Sunday School hours are 8:05, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.
