...Sunshine Returns in Full Force...

Considerably drier air has moved into North Alabama this morning, and
accordingly we expect most communities to be rain-free today. And,
with ample sunshine and the drier air, temperatures will rise quickly
today. We figure most places will see a high today somewhere between
92 and 96 degrees. But, on the positive side, dewpoints and humidity
values will be much lower today making the afternoon heat a little
more tolerable. Any showers and storms this afternoon should be
confined to the southern half of Alabama.

MOISTURE RETURNS QUICKLY: Moist air moves northward tonight, and we
will bring back the chance of a few passing showers or storms tomorrow
as an upper disturbance approaches from the west, and another surface
front from the north. The chance of any one spot getting wet tomorrow
is about one in three.

OUR WEEKEND: Looks like the next surface front won't have enough
southward push to make it into Alabama, so we should be in muggy air
Saturday and Sunday with a chance of scattered showers and storms both
days, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. There will be
some decent intervals of sunshine along the way, and afternoon highs
will be generally between 88 and 92. This pattern will continue into
the first half of next week.

JULY TORNADO WARNINGS: Interesting to note that we have had tornado
warnings for two consecutive days here in Alabama; on Tuesday night a
tornado warning was issued for Lawrence County up in the Tennessee
Valley of North Alabama, and last a tornado warning was issued for
Baldwin County, near the Gulf coast. While Doppler Radar velocity
signatures were fairly impressive on both storms for a brief time, no
major damage was reported from either storm. Tornadoes are very rare
in Alabama in the summer months due to light wind fields at the
surface and aloft. About the only time we have a significant tornado
event this time of the year is when a decaying tropical system moves
this way from the Gulf of Mexico.

AT THE BEACH: You will have to dodge a few scattered showers and
storms along the Gulf coast through the weekend, and we expect about 4
to 7 hours of sunshine on a daily basis in the area from Panama City
westward to Gulf Shores. The sea surface temperature (SST) at the
Dauphin Island Sea Lab last night was a very warm 87 degrees.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains quiet, but in the western Pacific
Typhoon Man-Yi has strengthened into a Category Four storm with
maximum sustained winds of 212 kilometers per hour (132 miles an hour)
in the Pacific Ocean as it heads for Okinawa. This major system has
the potential to produce loss of life and very significant property
damage.
