CLEAR FROM MOBILE TO MISSOULA: And also clear from Tuscaloosa to
Tacoma and from Birmingham to Bellingham. That pretty much describes
the weather across the central part of the country this afternoon. We
might as well settle down, calm our nerves and enjoy the clear dry
weather, since we cannot manufacture rain. Many areas got rain
yesterday. A few spots even got an inch, but most of the amounts were
not enough to write home about. (That is an old West Alabama saying.)

It was chilly across the state this morning, especially for the
middle of May. One of the lowest temperatures was 39 at Ft. Payne
Airport. It was 46 in Black Creek, Cullman, Pinson and DeSoto State
Park, 47 in Muscadine and Decatur and 48 in Gadsden.

This afternoon, we are looking to the north for a secondary cold
front that is pushing south through Tennessee and Kentucky. While
this front could bring a few scattered clouds, it is dry as a bone
and we do not expect any showers. It looks like almost total sunshine
all the way into the first part of next week. Very little risk of any
rain until the middle of next week.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: A large high pressure area will settle over
the SE Saturday and Sunday giving us some clear, cool nights. By
Tuesday, the wind will shift around to the SE and there is a
possibility of another cold front moving into the SE on Thursday. It
could bring some more showers and thunderstorms. 110 in Death Valley
was the hottest in the USA Wednesday. You will hear a lot about that
place the rest of the summer. It holds the all-time high for the USA
of 134 in 1934. Coldest this morning was 23 in Amasa, Michigan and
Man-O-Lakes, Wisconsin. I have never heard of Amasa. A lot of rough
weather in the NE yesterday all the way from the Atlantic Seaboard to
Massachusetts and Connecticut. Philadelphia got over 1 inch of rain.
The temperature dropped to 12 on this date in 1979 at Mauna Key
Observatory in Hawaii at an elevation of 13,770 feet. That is the
coldest ever in the islands.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Sure enjoyed a weather presentation by
Brian Peters this morning for the AWS at our church, Huffman Baptist.
AWS stands for Adults With Seniority. The AWS gave Brian a beautiful
cake and I am glad he got video of it. Brian and Jane also have a
wonderful Sheltie named Dakota. There is a landing partway up their
stairs at home and Dakota loves to hang out there so she can get a
clear view out the front door. My Little Miss Molly is still pooped.
When she was at the beauty shop a couple of days ago, they gave her a
shot to help her not have such itchy skin and scratch so much. That
must be why she has been subdued. She has been sleeping like a
zombie. She also may be tired due to our irregular hours and
unpredictable bedtime. She has not even begged me to have a ballgame
with her in the last two days. As soon as I get through with this
report, I am going to gather up a bunch of her balls and beg her to
play with me. Maybe reverse psychology will help. Life goes on.....
