SHOWERS MAY ARRIVE AFTER MIDNIGHT: Alabama weather is going to be
rather benign for the next 5 to 7 days with not much action. By
action, we mean a threat of severe weather and we do not really see
any of that all the way through the weekend into early next week.

A minor disturbance approaching from the west should bring us some
showers late tonight, probably after midnight. There will be
occasional showers Wednesday, but decreasing late in the day and
probably over by nightfall. This is not going to be a big dry
weather- erasing event. We estimate amounts around ¼ inch. The old
backyard thermometer is not going to offer us any excitement for days
on end. Indeed, we will barely get up to 80 by early next week. Our
highs over the weekend should be in the upper 70s. Lows for the next
several nights should be in the 40s. It is likely that Friday morning
will be our coolest with about 42 degrees across Central Alabama.

A TALE OF TWO CITIES: At one time, the NWS in New York described
the flooding in that area yesterday as being of historic proportions.
Bottom line: the Big Apple now has a surplus of over 8 inches of rain
so far this year. They had received almost 11 inches in the first 16
days of April. This is twice as much rain as they had received at
this same time last year. By contrast, the Big B (Birmingham) as of
today has a deficiency of 11.11 inches. That is a tremendous deficit
when you consider that 2007 is only 14 weeks old. We have to root for
some rain, because we are rapidly getting into the crucial part of
the growing season.

THE WORLD OF WEATHER: 85 in Red Bluff, California was the hottest
yesterday. Cold spots this morning: Yellowstone National Park with 24
and Nuiqsut, Alaska with 8 below. The weather has calmed somewhat in
the NE. Yesterday, Mt. Washington, New Hampshire had wind gusts to
156 mph. Today the gusts are running about 76 mph and temperatures
were in the 20s. In Baghdad, it should be dry for the next week with
high temperatures between 77 and 88. I promised a lady I would update
that occasionally during the hot season. I am glad to do that.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I deeply appreciate all the happy
birthday wishes. It is hard to realize that I am 71 years older than
my pal, Little Miss Molly. I guess when you reach age 75 you have a
special privilege of dispensing advice. My recommendation is to live
every day as if it could be your last one. Also, lighten up! Every
time I get out on the interstate, I cannot believe the number of
drivers that darken up. Tailgating is rampant. Try to live each day
by being good to someone. Do not get upset easily and do not tense up
so much. I learned early on in the Weather Service that if you let
tension get to you, you would go crazy. That is why I am thankful for
the ability today to not get uptight even in the midst of a tornado
warning. I must admit that Little Miss Molly would not let me get
uptight even if I tried. I was outside walking this morning while she
was still sawing logs. It was just after daybreak and one of the CR
(Community Rabbits) was racing down the walking track at what seemed
like 40 miles an hour as if he were jogging. If Molly had seen that,
I would have had to give her a Valium snack. She knew from birth to
chase rabbits and cats. Life goes on and I am forecasting 25 more
years on this old globe and I am betting on Little Miss Molly being
with me 15 more years. By then, she would have reversed my aging
another 20 years. I feel exactly like I am 50 years old today. I am
lucky and thankful....
