POT OF GOLD RAINFALL: I am not gifted at estimating how valuable
the rains were that fell across Alabama last night and today, but I
daresay it had to be a billion dollar rain. Just think about the
lower water bills due to not watering the lawn and all the crops that
were saved and the replenishment of some reservoirs. Unfortunately,
everybody did not get a drenching, but many sections of the state
received close to an inch of rain and a number of locations over 2
inches. An extensive list of those rain amounts are on the 33/40
Blog. Here is a list of some of the heavier amounts.

1.66 inches at Birmingham Airport
1.23 at Tuscaloosa
2.28 in Pinson
2.11 in NE Trussville
1.86 in downtown Birmingham
2.14 in Gardendale
1.81 in McCalla

There could still be a few showers and thunderstorms this evening as
a cool front comes through from the west. The cooler air will lower
our high temperatures a few degrees for tomorrow and bring a
substantial drop in humidity.

NASCAR AT THE TALLADEGA RACETRACK: The weather is looking good. We
may see a few showers show up Saturday afternoon, but we believe they
will be north of Talladega County. For the main Aarons 499 race
Sunday, look for dry weather with pleasant temperatures, highs 78 to
80, a cool early morning, with low 48 to 50.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: The storm system that brought our rain was a
major one for may parts of the country. In North Texas, major flash
flooding occurred after 6.25 inches of rain fell at Ft. Worth and
5.36 inches at Denton. A Tornado Watch this afternoon for parts of
Indiana and Illinois. National low this morning was 19 at Berlin, New
Hampshire.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Another one of those mixed up nights
for Little Miss Molly. I only managed 90 minutes of sleep and she was
up very, very late because of me. Normally when we say, "Time to go
night-night, Molly" she runs and hides. Last night when we said that
about 1:00 a.m., she immediately went in the bedroom and went to bed.
Amazing what the 2 inches of rain in my little corner did. Walking
Molly this morning, everything seemed so fresh. Even the weeds were
smiling and the Old Crow Creek was running again. Even the Old Crow
Motel, which had looked so drab and dry lately, seemed perked up.
Molly waded through every puddle of water she could find. She is just
like a little kid. Life goes on....
