...Shower Possible Today...

It is a busy weekend across Central Alabama, with a weekend of racing
at the Talladega Superspeedway and the Magic City Art Connection in
Birmingham's City Center. The good news is that the weather will be
cooperative.

FOR YOUR SAURDAY: An upper level disturbance will be passing well to
the north of Alabama today. As it moves off to the northeast, a lobe
of vorticity will rotate across northern Alabama. The low level
moisture across the state is rather limited, and showers will be
limited as a result. So, expect mostly cloudy skies across the area
today with a few isolated showers. A storm is not out of the question
as we get a little heating. Most of the activity should be north of
I-20. Fans trekking to Talladega today will enjoy mostly dry
conditions.

TOMORROW: High pressure will be building into Alabama on the heels of
the passing disturbance. Temperatures will start out around 52, and
rise to near 80 by mid afternoon.

THE WEEK AHEAD This high pressure is going to give us some beautiful
conditions through midweek. Daytime readings will be warm, with highs
warming through the 80s. Morning lows will be comfortable, rising
slowly from near 50 Monday morning into the middle 50s by Wednesday
morning.

NEXT WEATHER SYSTEM: A weak front will settle into the Tennessee
Valley by Wednesday, giving a slight chance of showers. A slightly
better chance of showers will be with us on Thursday as moisture
levels increase thanks to a southerly flow that will be becoming more
persistent.

MAGIC CITY ART CONNECTION: Birmingham's world class art festival
continues today at Linn Park from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Come down and
enjoy a vibrant art experience in the middle of our city center.

ON THIS DATE IN 2002: The first indications of trouble came early on
Sunday morning, April 28, 2002 as the Storm Prediction Center in
Norman, Oklahoma issued an Outlook for a Moderate Risk of Severe
Weather across a large portion of the Mid Atlantic and Northeast as a
strong low pressure system moved eastward from the Great Lakes.
Accompanied by strong upper level winds, the low pressure system was
forecast to cause widespread wind damage. Later outlook continued to
emphasize the threat and began to mention the possibility of
tornadoes. Persistent cloudiness during the late morning led
forecasters to downgrade the threat to Slight by noon. But by early
afternoon, the severe weather outbreak was underway and a PDS
(Particularly Dangerous Situation) Tornado Watch was issued for
portions of Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and western Maryland.
