...Warming Trend Continues...

Alabama's warming trend continues today; we are expecting a high
somewhere between 75 and 80 degrees for most communities. The day will
feature a good supply of sunshine, although a few high clouds will
probably show up this afternoon. Clouds will thicken tonight in
advance of an upper air trough approaching from the west, and a few
showers could show up after midnight.
We will maintain the risk of a few passing showers through the morning
hours tomorrow, but with weakening dynamics and limited, we don't
expect much in the way of beneficial rain. Generally speaking,
rainfall amounts should be a quarter of an inch or less, and no severe
weather is expected. The primary window for showers will come from
about 2:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon tomorrow. Then, slightly cooler and
drier moves into the state tomorrow night, setting the stage for
pleasant spring weather on Thursday and Friday with mostly sunny mild
days and clear, chilly nights.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: At this point it looks like our weather will remain
dry through the weekend. Afternoon highs on Saturday and Sunday should
be in the 75 to 80 degree range with a good supply of sunshine both
days.

STILL VERY DRY: The rain deficit continues to grow across Alabama.
Birmingham's rain total since January 1 is only 7.22"; a whopping
11.11" below normal. The total for entire month of April is only
0.64"; this is typically one of our wettest months of the year.

SOUTH ALABAMA TWISTERS: The major storm system that moved through
Alabama this past weekend produced severe thunderstorms primarily
across the southern half of the state. National Weather Service survey
teams discovered than an EF2 tornado moved through the small community
of Vredenburgh in Monroe County, which is between Camden and
Monroeville. EF1 tornado tracks were identified in Conecuh County near
Castleberry, and in Bullock County south of Union Springs.

REMARKABLE NOR'EASTER: The big storm that is now northeast of Long
Island produced serious problems yesterday and last night across a
wide part of New England, and along the upper Atlantic coast. At Mount
Washington, New Hampshire, winds gusted to 156 miles per hour. The
barometric pressure dropped to 28.77 inches at Danbury, Connecticut
and 28.78 inches at Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Some forecasters say
this is equal to a category one hurricane; others even mention a
category two. Central Park in New York City measured 8.41 inches of
rain through last night, and flooding was reported from New Jersey to
Maine. Thousands of flights have been cancelled, power outages remain
widespread. This is the same system that produced the tornadoes in
South Alabama on Saturday; it also produced tornadoes in South
Carolina Sunday that killed near Sumter. One person died in a car
stalled in deep water in an underpass in New Jersey. The weather will
slowly improve over the northeast U.S. during the next 24 hours.
