...Severe Storms Possible Tomorrow...

While we enjoy a dry and pleasant day today across Alabama, our
attention will be focused on developments to the west. A strong spring
storm system will come roaring out of the Rockies, and will bring the
risk of a significant tornado outbreak to parts of Texas, Arkansas,
and Louisiana later today and tonight. The highest risk of severe
weather this afternoon and tonight will be in the broad zone near I-20
from Fort Worth, Texas to Vicksburg, Mississippi.

STORMY SATURDAY: The showers and storms will move into Alabama
tomorrow. An advancing warm front should bring showers to the area
tomorrow morning, and then the stronger storms will likely arrive
during the midday and afternoon hours as the dynamics improve and the
air becomes more unstable. Thunderstorms tomorrow will have the
potential to produce large hail and damaging wind, and we can't rule
out the chance of a few isolated tornadoes with the stronger storms
due to a considerable amount of veering of the wind with altitude. For
now it looks like the best chance of strong to severe storms will come
tomorrow from about 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The storms will move out of the state Saturday evening, and much
cooler air will follow the rain. Sunday looks like a blustery day with
a strong north wind, and clouds lingering much of the day, especially
along and east of I-65. We are projecting highs only in the low 50s on
Sunday, and some parts of Northeast Alabama might not make it out of
the 40s.

FROST EARLY MONDAY? The winds will die down Sunday night, and with a
clear sky we will have the potential for some scattered frost across
the northern half of the state early Monday morning. Some of the
colder valley locations will probably experience a light freeze,
although in our forecast package we are using 34 as the projected low
early Monday. Then, we will warm up nicely during the day Monday with
ample sunshine, reaching the upper 60s by mid-afternoon.

STORM SURVEYS: Teams from the National Weather Service in Birmingham
were able to confirm six tornadoes in Alabama that touched down
Wednesday; one was in far Northwest Jefferson County in the community
of Bagley, where windows were blown out of cars and homes. One 18
wheeler was overturned, and the tornado stayed on the ground for
one-half mile. The tornado was rated EF1 on the new enhanced Fujita
scale. Five other EF1 tornadoes touched down Wednesday afternoon, one
near Dadeville in Tallapoosa County, one in Bibb County near Randolph,
one in Macon County near Tuskegee, one near Wetumpka in Elmore County,
and another one that moved through Macon and Russell Counties. There
were no known injuries in any of the tornadoes.

MORE SPRING SNOW: Winter storm warnings are up today for the southern
Rocky Mountains; up to one foot is expected across the southern part
of Colorado.
