....Spring Like Weather For Spring Break...

Some school systems in the area will be observing their Spring
vacations this week. If you are going to be hanging around town, get
ready for some decent Spring weather. After a coolish weekend,
temperatures will be on this rise, edging back to near 70 degrees
tomorrow and highs will be in the 70s throughout the week ahead. We
will be mainly dry until next weekend, although we could see a few
showers at midweek.

SUNSHINE FINALLY BREAKS OUT AT MY HOUSE: Mid level clouds have been
persistent across parts of the Tennessee Valley and East Alabama. We
finally started to see sunshine around 10 a.m. as clouds began to
erode around the edges with the heat of the day. Most areas are sunny
here at early afternoon, but it may take time for the clouds to
completely disappear. There was quite a range in temperatures at late
morning, from the 40s in cloudy areas, to middle 50s in sunny places.
Areas that clear will warm quickly with non-cloudy areas making the
upper 50s to lower 60s. That is a sign of things to come.

ON THE WEATHER MAPS: A big trough of low pressure is lifting out to
the northeast. As surface high pressure heads east out into the
Atlantic, out winds will turn more southeasterly and temperatures and
moisture levels start to rise. We should see 70 tomorrow and that
will be the trend for the week. The stubborn high may exert enough
influence to keep us dry through much of the coming week. There will
be a cold front lurking just to our north, but for now we think the
rain will stay back to the north and west. But, we can't rule out the
chance of a shower or storm late Wednesday, especially over the
Tennessee Valley. And with moisture levels on the rise, a few showers
could break out late in the week. We are still thinking that the
weekend system will stay to our west until late Sunday, when a
secondary low is expected to form to our west and push showers and
storms our way.

ON THIS DATE IN 2003: Utility poles in Madison, WI reportedly
ignited as fog combined with leftover salt from the winter season to
create a conductive solution that allowed the poles to catch fire.

ON THIS DATE IN 1899: Two tornadoes killed thirteen people across
South Central and East Alabama. The first twister, estimated to have
been an F2, hit the town of Sellers, southwest of Montgomery, killing
one woman. Later, an F4 tornado cut a 17 mile path through Calhoun
and Cleburne County from near Iron City to Muscadine. The entire
Coffee family lost their lives, including the parents and nine
children, at their home in Cleburne County. Papers from the home
were found fifty miles away in Cassville, Georgia. Just three days
before, an early morning tornado skipped across Avondale and Woodlawn,
just east of Birmingham. The twister had an
"eerie, electric glow" according to observers.
