NO SIGNIFICANT CHANCE OF RAIN ANY TIME SOON: The old thermometer
for the rest of this week, through the weekend and into at least the
middle of next week will be conducive to spring fever, an explosion
of blossoms, weeds and maybe even some bugs.
It is springtime. It officially arrives shortly after 7:00 this
evening. Weather people pretty much ignore that, because we consider
spring the three-month period of March, April and May. You have heard
the old saying, "Spring showers, May flowers." The only thing is, we
are way short on rainfall. Most sections of Alabama have received
only ½ the normal amount since January 1.
OUR NEXT RAIN: Some hint of some afternoon showers by Sunday, but
we really believe the next significant chance of rain will hold off
until Monday and Tuesday of next week. Meanwhile, temperatures will
edge upward. We are forecasting highs in the upper 70s through Friday
and some low 80s on Saturday and Sunday.
THE WORLD OF WEATHER: Did you know that the volume of water that
fell during the Blizzard of 93 (rain and snow melt) was equivalent to
40 days of the Mississippi River flow through New Orleans? That, of
course, is an estimate and it is not my estimate. It is based on
figures from climatologists. How would you like to be at Embarrass,
Minnesota? That NE Minnesota town had a low of 21 below zero this
morning, however, by tomorrow afternoon the high is expected to be 45
to 48, which means a 66 to 69-degree warm up in 36 hours. Meanwhile,
tonight they will have a mix of light sleet and freezing rain along
with some thunder and lightning. March 21, 1932 was the worst tornado
day in history for Alabama with two waves of tornadoes and about 300
deaths. Bill Murray is writing a series of articles this week about
that great weather event. 95 was the warmest USA temperature Monday
in Death Valley. Cold spots this morning was that 21 below at
Embarrass, Minnesota along with 27 below at Selawik, Alaska. We have
not looked in on Antarctica lately. Tomorrow is the first day of
autumn and their temperature today was 76 below zero.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Quiet as a mouse in our tiny corner.
Too quiet. Little Miss Molly is not home. She is at the Argo Animal
Clinic getting beautified today. She will be home late this afternoon
smelling so good with a little ribbon around her neck and big bright
eyes, because they will have trimmed her face somewhat. When we came
home from taking her this morning, I walked in the back door and
without thinking called for Little Miss Molly to come get her treat.
She gets a treat every time we come home and she gets as excited each
time like she had never had one before. Enjoying the peace and quiet,
but I must admit it just did not seem the same going through the
living area headed to the coffee pot today. When she is here, she
throws me a ball every time I pass through. Life goes on, but will be
better when Molly gets home....
