ANOTHER DRY WEEK: Mild and dry is about the best way to describe
the weather for the coming week. Those little weather tools, known as
weather models that we depend on quite a bit and also frequently fuss
about, seem to indicate that we will have very little chance of rain
until early next week. Another upper air low pressure system is
expected to cut off over the far southwest, fool around over the
desert for a few days and then move out across Kansas and Nebraska
late in the weekend. When that happens, it will permit some showers
to move into Alabama from the west about Monday.

It is fairly unusual to be this dry in Alabama in one of our
normally wettest months. Numbers this morning show that we have
received almost exactly one-half of our rain allotment for so far
this year. We will soon be into the early part of the growing season
and that does not bode well. We are also into our prime severe
weather season. We got hit hard on the very first day of the month
and since that time it has been as quiet as the proverbial church mouse.

Look for warm afternoons all through the week with highs mostly in
the mid 70s. By late in the week and over the weekend, there is a
good chance that we will see 80 or slightly warmer again.

THE WORLD OF WEATHER: At any given time, it is estimated that
almost 2,000 thunderstorms are in progress around the world. During
the middle of July 1995, 739 people died from an extreme heat wave in
Chicago in only 6 days. I love a full moon. Our next one will
brighten the night sky on April 2. Phoenix had record heat for the
5th day in a row yesterday with a high of 94. Hottest in the USA was
97 at Death Valley, California and Gila Bend, Arizona. Coldest this
morning was 7 below zero at Saranac Lake, New York and 33 below at
Nuiqsut, Alaska. Juneau, the capitol of Alaska, has received 192
inches of snow this season. Normal is only 89.

AT THE BEACH: This is Spring Break for some schools, but not all.
Along the Alabama-NW Florida coast, temperatures should go well into
the 70s every day this week with lows in the 50s. There should be
lots of sunshine with little or no rain.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: We posted a story on the blog this
morning about Munchkin. She is a very lovable dog and she has been
missing since last August. Her parents, Barry and Melissa Smith who
live in Tuscaloosa, have gone all out to find Munchkin, including
numerous trips to Birmingham to put up posters. She was lost while
being boarded in Birmingham. Check out the blog post. It has all the
information and there is a $2,300 reward. This is about the time of
her 8th birthday. Melissa urges that you enjoy your dogs and cats
while you have them. They give such amazing unconditional love and
they ask so little in return. She adds, "You will miss them when they
are gone." She thinks of Munchkin often and has several photographs
posted around the house and in her office at school. The pictures
make her smile, but they also remind her that a part of her heart is
still missing. I simply do not know what I would do if Little Miss
Molly came up missing. There would be many sleepless nights. We are
fortunate that none of the tainted dog food that is making big news
now, has ever been eaten by Miss Molly. We use only the Science Diet
brand of dry dog food. I occasionally slip her two or three tiny
cheerios for breakfast, but do not tell the majority owner. Life goes
on......
