...A Warm Dry Weekend...

LITTLE CHANCE OF RAIN UNTIL EARLY NEXT WEEK: It is the same old story
that we have repeated for days on end. Unseasonably warm and dry. Our
high temperatures over the next few days will average as much as 15
degrees above normal. Translation: that means highs around 82 or 83
and lows at night in the mid and upper 50s. The most crucial question
is when will it rain? We have introduced a small chance late Tuesday,
but even that is not certain. Even if it occurs, it is not expected to
be a widespread beneficial rain.

That is why a fire alert continues for at least 14 counties, mainly in
SW and West Alabama. The Birmingham metropolitan area is included. We
have had a large number of fires in the last few weeks across the
state.

A low pressure area aloft over the far SW will take its time to open
up and move into the Central Plains. Even then, only a limited amount
of moisture will spread into Alabama from the west and SW.

WEEKEND AT THE BEACH: Spring Break among Alabama school systems is
varied this year. Everybody does not go at the same time. This weekend
should be warm and dry along the Alabama-NW Florida coast with highs
mostly 76 to 78 along the immediate beach area and lower 80s a little
further inland. That same weather pattern will hold into next week.
Only a few isolated showers about Tuesday.

THE WORLD OF WEATHER: Alabama is not the only area with a shortage of
rainfall. For example, in Atlanta there is a 6.11- inch deficit so far
this year. In New Orleans, the shortage is 6.16 inches and Memphis
needs 4.47 inches to catch up. Under the current weather pattern, any
risk of severe weather will stay mostly in the Plains and Midwest
through the weekend. Early next week, the risk for severe will extend
mostly from North Texas to Southern Minnesota. The hottest temperature
in the nation Thursday was 86 at Laredo, Texas and Death Valley,
California. The coldest was 13 at Stanley, Idaho. Stanley is located
on the Salmon River in the heart of the Sawtooth Mountains. The peaks
of those mountains are jagged and sharp and they remind you of a saw
tooth.

STORM ALERT TV SPECIAL: An hour-long special showing segments of the
Storm Alert 2007 tour and also some special stories filmed in
Enterprise will air Sunday evening starting at 6:00 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
If you did not get to attend any of the sessions, this will be a good
chance to see at least some of it.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly will not see much of
me today and Saturday as I will be on the campus of Mississippi State
University along with James Spann, Brian Peters and Jason Simpson for
the Annual Southeast Severe Weather Symposium. Even though we have
collectively been in weather for what seems like centuries, we always
learn something new. We also have a lot of fun and some great meals. I
might even have a few illegal doughnuts. When I get home, Little Miss
Molly will literally take me down. Her enthusiasm is absolutely
catching. I am very thankful again that she did not eat any of the
tainted dog food. I could not do without her. Life goes on.
