...Spring Like Weather...

I think you will like the weather we have in store for you during the
coming week. That is good news for folks who are on spring break this
week.

WEATHER MAP ACTION: High pressure that is sliding east will take up
residence over the western Atlantic. As it does, it will act as a big
moisture and heat pump, giving us increased humidity and spring like
warmth for the coming week. It will also be strong enough to keep a
pesky cold front to our north at bay on Tuesday. That front will high
tail it back north as a warm front by Wednesday as another disturbance
will move out of the Plains states into the Midwest Then a stronger
low pressure system will form over West Texas and start moving
northeast. By Sunday, it will be moving through Missouri. As it
does, it will eventually affect our weather Sunday night into Monday
morning.

TRANSLATION: So, having said all that, in terms of our sensible
weather, here is what you can expect, day by day. Today will be
partly cloudy and mild, with highs topping out in the lower 70s.
Highs will edge up into the middle 70s for Tuesday through Friday.
Periods of sun with mixed clouds will be the rule for much of the
week. I guess a shower could sneak in here Wednesday, but the chance
looks very remote. And with increased moisture levels during the
latter half of the week on a persistent southeast flow, a shower will
not be out of the question. But the good rain chances will hold off
until later in the weekend. In fact, the arrival of rain and storms
is currently projected to be Sunday evening.

HISTORIC WEEK: It was a watershed year in American history. The
United States was in the depths of the depression. Prohibition was in
full force. Hitler was seizing power in Germany. The Japanese had
invaded Manchuria. The world believed that the way to prevent another
world war was to appease any power that rattled its sabers. The
Lindbergh baby kidnapping dominated the headlines. President Hoover
was getting ready to accept the Republican nomination. Who would be
the Democrat? On an abnormally March Monday, tornadoes killed more
Alabamians that on any other day. More in today's Weather Talk.

ON THIS DATE IN 2003: A two day snowstorm dumped up to seven feet of
snow on parts of
Colorado and Wyoming, closing interstates, shutting down businesses
and schools, stranding 4000 travelers at Denver International Airport,
and even ripping the airport's soaring cloth roof. You would expect
that such a disruptive storm would be a bad thing, but not for
residents of drought weary Colorado. The wet, heavy snow provided as
much as forty percent of the annual precipitation for many Front Range
cities and towns. The 5.2 inches of melted equivalent at Fort
Collins, Colorado was the most at that location in 114 years. Water
experts gleefully reported that the snow would help replenish
reservoirs and eliminate the need for watering landscapes for quite
some time.
